TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Thursday, December 25, 2003
And so this is Christmas, season of hope for a world which all too often seems hopeless. I don't have to tell you of the fear and mistrust ruling our lives. I don't have to tell you of the world leaders, my own country's included, whose agendas have little to do with the rightness or wrongness of this or that. I don't have to tell you of the violence which continues to take innocent lives or of the depravation that faces so many people in so many places all around the globe.
But I also don't have to tell you about the reality of hope, of the gleaming possibility of a better tomorrow. You can see it in the faces of the good men and women who strive to keep our hopes alive and to create that better tomorrow. And you can see it most clearly in the eyes of the children.
Were it within my power, the gifts I would bring to you today would be hope for tomorrow, faith in yourselves, and peace to all the peoples of the world. Since it is not, I can but share my own desire for these most precious of gifts.
I can also share this...a collection of Christmas images from the worlds of comics and popular culture. Chosen from hundreds of images, they spoke to me beyond whatever historical importance they may or may not possess. I hope that they speak to you as well and bring a little extra joy into your holiday.
Thanks for being a part of my holiday. Thanks for the joy you have brought to my life by reading my columns and stories for these many years. Thanks for being there.
Merry Christmas, my friends. Merry Christmas.
Tony Isabella

THE "TONY" SCALE

ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.

ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.

TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?

THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.

FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?

FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
