good album ^ Very good music and lyrics, it's a pity though that there are no songs in french... i would recommend this CD
Madeleine has done it again... ^ I just purchased this from iTunes and she has done a great job, again! I'm not a person really into jazz, however, she has now made me a believer that jazz is not all coffee shop nerds getting together while barely making it by. Maybe that is a tad harsh, but her music is just that beautiful. I hope to see more from her music in future collections.
Almost Works ^ Peyroux's recent outing suffers from material that fails to arrest attention. "Instead" that opens the set paints a sweet mood and is probably the best track on the disc. "To Love You All Over Again" her vocals are warm, but the music just plunks on repeatedly. "You Can't Do Me" almost works, but also suffers from the chronic banging of Jim Beard on piano. Many of these tunes remain faceless after repeated listening from "Bare Bones" to "Love & Treachery" and my least favorite track on the disc, "The Lady of Pigalle." Even when the material isn't great, Peyroux the singer manages to be interesting. This disc is neither awful nor remarkable; spin it a few times and move on. Enjoy!
Madeleine Peyroux's CD Bare Bones ^ If you are a fan of her previous CDs, you will be delighted by Madeleine Peyroux's CD Bare Bones. I had heard one or two of the tracks on our local jazz station, KBEM, and went to Amazon immediately to sample the other tracks. Of course I had to buy it and certainly was pleased with the CD when it arrived along with a book which I had also ordered. If you like the easy drawl of singers like Bessie Smith or Billie Holiday, you will love her singing. You will also enjoy the original material found on this album.
No variety ^ I bought this CD and another one by the same artist based on one song I heard. Unfortunately, the song I liked was the best one and both albums sound exactly the same. There is no variety and after three songs I have to turn it off.
