Description: Academy Award® nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man who has been living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote to the unbridled force of rage within him: the Hulk. But when the military masterminds who dream of exploiting his powers force him back to civilization, he finds himself coming face to face with his most formidable foe: the Abomination -– a nightmarish beast of pure aggression whose powers match the Hulk’s own!
Amazon.com: A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 HulkLouis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh
A Refreshing Update I'll try hard not to over-elaborate, but the Louis Leterrier version of The Incredible Hulk was clearly a much needed and better take in comparison to Ang Lee. Additionally, Ed Norton was a much more enjoyable and believable choice for Bruce Banner instead of Eric Bana's lethargic character. So Betty Ross and Banner WERE in love after all?! You would have never known in the confusing mess of the Ang Lee movie.
As a fan of The Incredible Hulk series and of the comic, there's rift in what people are expecting in the movie theaters. I actually applaud Ang Lee in his attempt to create something unique, because that's what was needed. However, Louis Leterrier was much more successful in capturing the sincerety of both the Banner and Hulk character without an overly artsy or psychological analysis. Sure there were some inconsistencies (changing back and forth from day to night during the village chase scene), and the effects still don't seem to be quite at a level to make them seamless with live-action...but both the writing and action were much better this time around.
While there are various origin stories at this point, most people understand the concept by now. The Hulk is a great character: The classic innocent brute who has a basic concept of good, but who is persecuted by the world around him. One of most recognized characters in comic book history is deserving of a creative and solid interpretation. I'm glad it worked out better this time...and I hope there will be even more impressive sequels to come.
The Hulk, as incredible as his creators intended Finally, this is the Incredible Hulk as he was seen in the comic books since the early 1960's. I had forgotten how much fun the Hulk could be. The Hulk is one of Marvel's creations that are equal parts superhero, horror, and sci-fi fantasy. This character's story borrows as much from Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and King Kong as it does from earlier superheroes. The battle between the Hulk and the Abomination is reminescent of "War of the Gargantuas". Loaded with escapist action and adventure "The Incredible Hulk" also reminds us that humankind is responsible for the wonders and the horrors that we have wrought.
S.O.S!! over and over and over and over again!!! Let me keep this simple. I watched this film because my friends LOVE this movie. Come to think of it, if you give my friends a 'box of staples' and a six pack of cheap beer, they'll stay amused for hours. Need I say more?
Awesome This was a really excellent movie and the details described about the product was very accurate. When I first purchased the movie, I was hoping that my expectations would be met about this movie since the first Hulk was trash, but I watched it, and it was hot. I'm really glad that I bought it.
Incredible Hulk starring Ed Norton This Blu Ray Version is a must have for Blu Ray Fans. Lots of action and nice special effects. But I still rank Batman - The Dark Knight and Iron Man wit Robert Downy Jr as the 2 best Blu Rays out there so far.
