Trek Tricorder is oin the House! ^ I remember watching the original series when it first came out in the sixities. Yes I am that old and have been a trekkie ever since. And I have collected many Trek items over the years. Always within a budget, but dreamed of the prop replicas offered. So until now I've only had the model tricorder from the seventies. Now I have a Tricorder to be proud of, and carry around when in uniform :) Despite some reviews I am very happy with mine. No this is not a hundreds of dollars repli-prop. It is a toy and priced to sell, Thanks Amazon for the pre Christmas sale :) It feels good, looks good and mine sounds good too. The only downer I would say is the way the view screen is lit. The lighting is from way off to the right side and does not light up the screen very brightly or evenly. So until I win the lottery and can buy a real replica I'll stick with my new Tricorder :)

Exactly what I expected, maybe even better ^ I read most of the other reviews before taking the plunge and ordering my own. I was prepared for a cheaply built and imperfect toy. I figured for less than $30 it was worth a try. The seller's note warned that the package was crushed but the product was undamaged. That's exactly what I got. The package wasn't even that bad, but I don't care, I want to play with it - not display it in the box.
I opened it up and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't even have to put in batteries. It was ready to go. I just had to switch from demo mode to normal on. I tried to figure out all the features without reading the instructions and thought at first it wasn't working properly. Once I read the instructions, I found everything worked perfectly.
It's not quite perfect. There is a tiny little flaw on part of the silver plastic (no biggy). There is a little wrinkle in the image of the view screen, but it's not very noticable and only from an angle. The sound clips of Spock sound like they may be just a touch fast, but still sound good.
I took it to work and all my nerdy engineer buddies love it! My boss looked a photo of an original prop from the series and was impressed at how similar this one looks. I think the manufacturer has done a good job.
I'm very pleased and having fun with it. I can hardly wait to order a communicator and a phaser next!
tricorder entertainment earth exclusive ^ a nice replication my only dissapointment is the hand held medical scanner not loud enough to hear sound effect even up to the ear almost silent , returned the first for this cause it didnt work at all with sound effect and the second one was hardy audible to be worth putting the workings inside lacking in that department . i would have purchase a seperate scanner or paid more money to complete the set better than what they added as a hand held scanner componant. it also doesn't spin on it own, you need to use a "thumb wheel' another detail worth doing and not hard these days with the tech we have now... thats just as important as the tricorder.
This item is complete trash ^ This item is of the lowest possible quality. The paint is smeared. The item does not at all operate according to the included instructions. The handle for the lower compartment broke off on first use. In short, this item is literally not worth 10 cents.
What a great item! ^ I purchased this to go with a costume and for the three Star Trek themed people at the party, this item made a BIG hit! I'll have to go back to purchase the Medical Tricorder next!
