Product Description: Why make room for two players when you only need one? The D-VR660 offers DVD and VCR playback as well as 1080p upconversion to near HD quality via HDMI. Bi-directional dubbing takes the fuss out of recording your VHS tapes to DVD, and the built-in tuner completes the package by allowing you to tune both digital and analog channels.
Not worth the money ^ This item came without an owner's manual. We also couldn't get a picture on it. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Refurbs are just not reliable.
Toshiba DVR660 doesn't last ^ This unit worked fine for 11 months, before the dvd drive started making grinding sounds, and stopped recording dvds. Toshiba has a chintzy warranty of 90 days labor & 1 year parts. When I tried to make a warranty claim, I was told the only option available was a trade in for $115 (plus return shipping Charges). Jeez Toshiba, you can do better than that.
VHS doesn't work so it's useless in this sense. ^ Toshiba DVR660: I'm waiting for the return authorization. I called several times asking for a manual - it never came. I purchased the DVR to tape from VHS to DVD - the VHS does not work so it's useless to me. I am requesting another DVR to see if that one works. If not, I'll go somewhere else and purchase one.
Love the machine, not crazy about the manual ^ I really like this machine, but the manual leaves something to be desired. The recording I've done so far is quite good. It is not too hard to setup. The only problem I've had with the machine, is that when I program a recording and insert a DVD, I no longer have the use of the DVD drive and cannot make changes in the programming, unless I unplug the machine for about an hour. It then looses the time and the recording info I've programmed. This seems like a design flaw. I haven't tried programming more than two DVD recordings yet.
I haven't tried the VCR to DVD recording, yet or the editing features.
Tha manual is a different matter. It has all of the information, but you have to work for it. It would be nice if the manual was set up in the same order as the setup of the machine. It tells you step-by-step how to set up different operations, but not in the same order as the menu. It would also be nice if there was a glossary of terms that they use. I have figured out some of the terms, but it is difficult and time consumming. They should have someone redo their manual.
I have been using Maxwell 2x DVD-RW in the machine. They seem to work well. On the DVDs I don't want to keep, I do a full erase on my computer.
Madness ^ I agree with many of the negative comments regarding ease of use plus many more. When we switched to DTV in February all my programmed recordings would get wiped out every week. I was told to set the clock manually, never automatically. It was explained as a computer glitch.
Various screens open by themselves such as the contents of a DVD in the burner. Try to see what has been programmed and the Not Available symbol pops up. It likes to pop up randomly when you try to do almost anything.
A call to the factory and you are told that the machine needs re-programming at a cost of $100 plus shipping. After a few months of aggravation, they should pay me. A piece of junk that should not have made it to the marketplace.
