Amazon.com: "When you look at me, what do you see?" pontificates football star Joe Kingman, then provides the answer: "Greatness." Well, clearly an ego like that needs to be brought down to size--pint-size. The winning family comedy The Game Plan has a whole lot going for it, including star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who's a natural comedic actor (and the camera loves him), and the young actress (Madison Pettis) who plays the daughter he didn't know he had, Peyton. The plot doesn't break much new ground, since many films have mined the territory of the self-indulgent child-adult who suddenly "inherits" a child (from Three Men and a Baby to Baby Boom to Big Daddy to Raising Helen). But thanks to the charismatic performance of Johnson, the film is winsome and uplifting. Johnson's comic timing and straight-man face are spot-on, as is his warm chemistry with the sweet-faced Pettis. Also giving notable performances are the lovely Roselyn Sanchez as Peyton's ballet teacher, and Kyra Sedgwick as Kingman's hard-nosed agent who's aghast at the appearance of an out-of-wedlock child. Children and adults both can enjoy the movie's warm-and-fuzzy moral of making family where you find it--or where it finds you. --A.T. Hurley
"Game Plan DVD" This was an awesome movie! Good family flick without having to worry about language, violence, nudity, etc..."The Rock" was a definite plus for this movie. I can't imagine anyone else who could have made it any better! He "rocks" in my book!
Cute and funny! Dwayne Johnson is a good actor and can hold his own against a little girl.
The Game Plan Rather than spend alot of time thinking of the right things to say about this movie I will tell you to read Steven Hedge's review. I certainly can't put it any better. Dwayne Johnson is in fact trying to expand his repertoire and he is good at it. Like Schwarzenegger I see his potential doing any genre. When Schwarzenegger did "Twins" it was obvious he wasn't just "Conan the Barbarian". As Steven pointed out Vin Diesel is another that has been expanding that acting envelope, so keep an eye on both of them. So after this you will definitely know Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson isn't just "The Scorpion King".
This movie centers around an egotistical womanizing quarterback for Boston. When a young girl arrives at his penthouse apartment unescorted he doesn't know what to do about her when she says she is his daughter. Johnson soon finds out she is his daughter and is told she is there for a month visit while her mom assists a tribe in deep Africa. Johnson's character is slow to come around to the idea of raising a daughter with lots of comic moments defining those changes in his outlook. Overall a fun family movie from Disney. Well worth at least a rental and I recommend it as a buy for families. Good quality DVD with plenty of replayability. If you enjoyed this be sure to catch "The Rundown". A bit violent for young kids but with plenty of action and comedy.
Cute Movie This is a very cute movie. I have two boys ages 8 and 3 1/2 and they both love it. Watching "tuff guy" the Rock interacting with a cute little girl is funny and adorable. A nice family movie.
GREAT FAMILY MOVIE....... DeWayne "The Rock" Johnson delivers a stellar performance as Joe Kingman, a self-absorbed star quarterback who is suddenly thrust into fatherhood with the appearance on his doorstep of an 8-year-old daughter that he didn't know that he had. Immediately, his bachelor lifestyle is threatened with dramatic changes as he struggles to accomodate the needs of a little girl....who is also very determined to become an integral part of his life. Joe views Peyton's arrival as an intrusion...until a potential life-threatening event shows Joe that even big name quarterbacks can have a major Achilles heel....and it may have nothing to do with the gridiron. A wonderful little story for all to watch...which is exactly what we've come to expect from anything with the Disney name attached to it.
