Product Description: Jay Austin wants to sell you a used car, but watch out! Many victims have fallen prey to his smiling face and hasty promises. Austin does everything his way until his dishonesty and manipulation are repeatedly exposed. Like many men, he becomes disgusted by the masks he wears and lies he tells. While having a classic convertible repaired, Austin begins a humorous and inspiring journey to win back the hearts of his wife, his son, and his community. In every man's life, there can be a turning point. When Jay Austin makes his turn, he never looks back.
Amazon.com: Flywheel is the first film from the creators of Facing the Giants and Fireproof. Used car salesman Jay Austin (writer/director Alex Kendrick) swindles his customers and teaches his assistant salesmen to do the same--but despite the profits, something gnaws at him. When he realizes that his own son doesn't respect him, Austin has a conversion and accepts God into his life. This would be the end of most spiritual stories, but Flywheel finds a warm comedy in the obstacles on the path of righteousness; Austin discovers that being right with God means grappling every day with what it means to be honest. Though the filmmaking is raw (the editing is often clumsy and the cinematography is flat), the story is well-paced, has a gently ironic sense of humor, and Kendrick's central performance is compelling. Kendrick is just as persuasive as a man struggling to emerge from a joyless life as he is when he's rediscovered his faith but finds it constantly tested. Though Flywheel is forthright about its Christian inspiration, the story is about actually living a moral life, not about abstract spiritual truths. The result is a movie that looks towards heaven, but has its feet on the earth. --Bret Fetzer
EXCELLENT!!! This is an absolutely fantastic movie for all members of the family. Everyone I have shown it to also have loved it. Get this and their new movie, "Facing the Giants" and plan some great family movie nights.
Not your typical church production Lay aside, for a moment, sterotypes and prejudices about movies made by amateurs--especially from a church--in the Bible Belt, no less. This group's first project, Flywheel, was shot with a video camera and may look like an "indy" film, but it has few of the faults normally associated with amateur productions.
As far as I know, none of the actors was a professional, but almost all of them seemed natural and believable--especially the lead. (The lead actor was also co-writer, director and editor, among other things.)
Those elements work together well to support what I remember most about Flywheel--the story. It is one that almost everyone can relate to on some level. A used-car salesman has brought unhappiness to himself and to those around him by the way he treats his customers. His transformation is shown with a sympathetic but unheroic view of the human condition. Unlike many other morally uplifting stories, this Scrooge does not redeem himself by his good behavior. Rather, his good behavior is a result and not a cause. The outworking of this has a realism in its complexity, unpredictability and moral responsibility which, for me, brought the story to a believable and satisfying conclusion.
If you haven't seen Flywheel, give it a try. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy it.
do not miss this movie I like insperational movies, that root for the under dog and as a man i admit i cried during this movie more than any movie i have ever watched.no joke when you see a grown man hitt his knees you`ll know what im talking about, good movie for christian or some on who wants to learn.
Everyone should see, and business owners should take note If we could get all businesses to run like the one in this movie, The United States could once again be a great country. This movie is very powerful, we need to get back to treating others aw we want to be treated.
Flywheel I wished Hollywood would support Christian movies more so there would be more higher quality Christian movies available. Even though this was not a top notch hollywood quality movie, the story was Excellent. It had me in tears quite a few times. The actors did a great job! The messages were very clear and it showed where all family members hearts and heads should be as Christians. I would recommend this movie to believers and non-believers!!
