The Ultimate Collection Finally !! 5 STARS!! Well, here it finally is- The Ultimate Collection! I give this collection 5 stars!! Here's what you get on this 6 disc set (actually since the 25th Ann. Special Edition is a double sided disc, you are getting 7 sides):
First Case: (2 dvd case)
Disc One: The Beginning (2004)
Disc Two: Dominion: The Prequel (2004)
Both versions hardly differ much- I prefer The Beginning. Dominion was made after they decided The Beginning wasn't good enough, yet Dominion looks like a bunch of outtakes compiled to make a movie. Interesting though that they used the same lead actor to do both movies- I wish they would have done 2 versions of the movie Mountains Of The Moon, it needed another viewpoint.
Second Case: (2 dvd case)
Disc One: The Exorcist (The 25th Anniversary Special Edition) (1998) (It has the classic movie on side A and all the bonus features on side B of the disc. The original 25th Ann. Edition was a 2-disc case and everything on it is on this single 2-sided disc).
Disc Two: The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen (2000)
Third Case: (single disc)
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
Fourth Case: (single case)
Exorcist III: Legion (1990)
BUT to make your collection a real Ultimate Edition you should add the following:
1. ABBY (1974)- This is the african-american cast version of the Exorcist, now available as a collector's edition on dvd. Part of the infamous blaxpotation era, it tries not to copy the original Exorcist released a year prior, but the storyline ends up the same. However, it does have a great finale- there's a hilarious showdown between the preacher and the devil in a discoteque of all places!!
2. REPOSSESSED (1990)- While Exorcist III was being made, Linda Blair and Leslie Neilson was making this spoof. Very funny in parts, but unless you are a fan of Leslie Nielson's silly movies, you probably won't like it. Hard to find on dvd but does show up occasionally on E*bay.
There have been lots of comedy shows that have done spoofs of the Exorcist, most people remember Richard Pryor on SNL around 1976 or 1977, but my 2 favorites are these:
French & Saunders: "Gentlemen Prefer French & Saunders" dvd A 3-part comedy sketch with Dawn French (Vicar Of Dibley) and Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous).
And of course the intro to Scary Movie II, with James Woods. Too bad it ended so soon.
the best I first saw this movie when I was just 8 years I begged my mother to let me watch it,It still is the most disturbing I have ever seen to date, most of the flicks today are boring compared to this, Linda Blair had to endure hours of cold in a meat freezer while filming the bedroom scenes. This box set rules!!!
Must have for all horror fans Love this set it has all 6 movies. The package is neat. This movie is really scary and the special effects were great. There are just some movies you watch once and get bored and I have watched these movies many times and I can watch it again and again it will still be just as scary and fun as the first time I saw it. I still like to have some one else in the room with me though.
do you know what she did? This is great if you don't have any of these films yet.For someone who doesn't want all of them 1,3 and the Renny Harlin version of the prequel are the must haves. There are some continuity problems with the 3rd and I say that because 1 and 3 are both written by William Peter Blatty, so there really shouldn't be mistakes but they are there. The ones I'm talking about are in the dialogue, having to do with the tapes Karras made of Regan talking to him in the first film. That is talked about in the 3rd but it's not described how it actually went down in the 1st... why Blatty why
Could have been perfect I am not here to comment on the movies, never found The Exorcist anything more than a mediocre flick anyway. I will just comment on this DVD set.
The packaging is lovely, with an outer cover made of high quality cardboard and printed perfectly. It houses four individual ultra thin plastic cases, two of which have 2 DVDs each the other two each has one DVD.
The only problem I had was that one of the two disks in the first case is a double face disk, and a double face disk means trouble and all the acrobatics needed to touch it or know which face has what! It is beyond me why didn't they make an extra disk and make one of the two single disk cases a double as well?
Other than this, I find it to be one of the best value for money DVD sets i have ever bought. A must for fans of those movies or those -like myself- who just wanted to see them to know what the fuss is all about.
