Amazon.com:
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock pair up again in what could be described as the anti-Speed: The Lake House, a sweet, relaxed-paced, whimsical romance. When Alex Wyler (Reeves, The Matrix) moves into an unusual glass house on stilts over a lake, he discovers a note from the previous tenant in the mailbox--but no one's lived in the house for years. He replies and soon discovers that he's corresponding with a doctor named Kate Forster (Bullock, Miss Congeniality) who's writing from two years in the future. Their correspondence turns romantic and their paths cross in unexpected ways, but when they try to truly connect, danger looms. Though the plot of The Lake House sounds potentially static, the movie is skillfully structured and, despite some truly awful dialogue, will exert an emotional pull on anyone willing to embrace the device of the time-travelling mailbox. What the movie really demonstrates, though, is the genuine rapport between Bullock and Reeves; Reeves, though handsome, has a wooden presence--but in his few scenes with Bullock, his stiffness transforms into a palpable yearning. On-screen chemistry is slippery and hard to define, but these two have it. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 starsA Love Story of Fate
This movie is so wonderful. It takes you through an emotional journey. The story is about a man and woman in love that live at a lake house... just not at the same time, two years apart to be exact. They correspond through letters left in the mailbox for each other. An incredible tale unfolds about true love and perfect timing.

If you enjoyed The Lake House, then I also recommend Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon, another great love story of timing and fate.

4 out of 5 starsTouching Movie with a Twist?
I didn't know what to expect when I watched this movie with all the jumping around in time. It did draw me into the hope of a love story.

Sandra Bullock shines once again in this movie with her co star. A great love story!

3 out of 5 starsShould Have Let Rod Serling Handle the Time Travel
Too bad Rod Serling is dead because I think he would have made more sense of the time travel stuff in this movie. Or even the Back to the Future writers. Lake House had too many loose ends and made very little sense in the end. Actually it is a bit confusing to classify this as a time travel movie because it appears that only a dog and some letters in a mailbox travel through time. The mailbox is a portal to the past, but the person being communicated with in the past lives in the present as well, but is getting communications two years before the present time. Confused? I was too. As for the other elements of the movie, I thought it was a nice romance and Sandra Bullock is charming as always. This could have been a really great movie with just a little more thought as to how to make some sense on the time differences. The guy who is an architect and getting communications in the past from the girl who lives in the present ends up dead according to his brother, but then he doesn't get killed after all because he gets warned in the past before the event by the girl, so he avoids the danger. The problem is the brother has just said he died, so which is it? There is never a satisfactory explanation as to how he could have died, but then been warned so he didn't die. Nonsensical. Does this suddenly change the memory of the brother? It is never explained or explored. Did they really think we would buy this? Only the actors saved this from being a complete disaster. It's not a bad movie; just nothing special.

5 out of 5 starsStangely fascinating.....
story that lures you on a journey about the transcendency of love. It is a simple story yet it holds some level of intricacy which arouses the interest of the viewer.
