Easy to Install and Adjust The shelf was extremely easy to install and looks very nice. It is sturdy, and definitely holds more weight that the minimum recommendation. The thing we like most about it is that it is the perfect size for the plastic storage containers we use to store most of our things. It is a great product.
Took a little work but got things out of the way I now have 4 of these in my basement to hold all the holiday bins that we have. Does a great job and keeps things neat.
My only grip about them would be the screw hole placement where it attaches to a stud. The studs in my basement are not at the exact distance to accomodate the holes in the frame. If they can create more holes that are spaced differently without damaging the strength that would be great.
My work around for this was to get 1x4's and build a frame that fits the Hyloft demensions and attach that to the wall studs first then put the Hyloft on afterwards.
OK for the price I bought 4 of these on a special amazon deal with free shipping. They are perfect for storing tubs that aren't too big or heavy. My wife uses these to store her Christmas "stuff" and they work out pretty well. I made sure I screwed these to the studs and didn't use the drywall screw plugs that they provided. All in all, they are pretty good for the price. If you can get a good deal on them and get free shipping, I'd go for it.
Overhead storage frees you up to enjoy your garage. Now that I have put several of these sturdy shelf units up, I have the luxury of walking unhindered all the way around my PT Cruiser parked in the garage. Our human minds seek to make sense or order out of things in our environment. Whoever invented this should be nominated for the Nobel prize in science. Please keep track of the small bag of screws and wall anchors and you will not become frustrated. It is easy to loose that in a messy garage like I did.
First, figure out where you want to hang the top plate of the assembly. Put the plate about a half inch to one inch below the ceiling to allow for setting in the three vertical brackets onto the plate's lower lip. Place a level (Johnson 24" wallpaper level is light and pretty to look at) under the plate against the wall, check for level and mark the plate holes with a pencil or pen. Starting out level (horizontally) and plump (vertically straight) will make the job go smoothly and several attached units will look like you really care about doing good work, which homebuyers like too.
A Skil 14.4 volt cordless drill is perfect (and low cost) for drilling holes into the wallboard to place the included plastic anchors for the metals screws to hold the hardware to the wall. It takes practice to get the holes drilled wide enough for the plastic anchor inserts so take your time and don't go overwide. Of course if you drill into a wooden stud 2x4, you will not need an anchor insert in that hole. Once the plate is screwed in, take one bracket and place it on the left side of the plate (hang it from the lip) "plump" it and mark the screw holes and get it drilled and scrwed in too. Now for the middle bracket. Here, I like to place the bracket on the lip and then take one of the baskets and hang it on the left bracket and the center bracket too in order to help me get this center bracket in a good sensible location. Now take the basket off and use the level to plumb this bracket too. Mark holes, drill, insert anchors, screw down the bracket to the wallboard/sheetrock. Repeat for the right bracket, hang the baskets, and viola! "You done got organized."
Organization is hard work, but once accomplished then we are free to be creative and enjoy life without the stress of clutter holding us back.
And $24.99 is a very good price, especially since these are regularly discounted to $26.00. I like heavy duty things, which very well may save us from things that go bump in the night.
Great item! These items install easily and work great! I already had bins, so I got 4 sets of these (each set holds 4 bins) and was able to mount all of them in about an hour. My garage is neater and things are easier to find.
