The British sitcom The Office has the most devoted following this side of Monty Python, so an American remake seemed doomed. Amazingly, the remake actually finds its own enjoyable version of the original's uncanny comedy of embarrassment. Office manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell, The Daily Show, The 40 Year-Old Virgin) believes he's the beloved leader of the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of a paper products company--but his relentless and painfully forced efforts at comedy creep out everyone around him, including paranoid Dwight (Rainn Wilson, who had a memorable recurring role on Six Feet Under), nervous receptionist Pam (Jenna Fischer, LolliLove), and aimless salesman Jim (John Krasinski, A New Wave), who's smitten with the already engaged Pam. The pilot episode suffers from closely replicating the British pilot, but after that The Office finds its own footing, turning diversity training, an office birthday party, and a basketball game into excruciating yet hypnotically funny rituals of humiliation. Carell, though clearly talented, can't match Ricky Gervais' unique performance as the aggressively needy British manager (it's hard to imagine that anyone could); as a result, the supporting roles become more prominent, and Wilson, Fischer, and Krasinski quickly create a rapport that matches and may even exceed that of their British counterparts. Be sure to watch the deleted scenes; remarkably, they're as good as the material that made it on the air in this six-episode season. --Bret Fetzer

4 out of 5 starsGreat First Season.
Okay, so many people complain that the first season is only 6 episodes long. Well, get over it! As for almost any other show, the first season can be a little hard to get into, given that you are just getting to know the characters. I think that the writers did a great job in introducing the characters and sub-plots in these few episodes, and makes all of the other seasons even more enjoyable.

4 out of 5 starsReally funny but short
This is the first installment of the "American" Office. While it's really funny the disc has only 6 episodes and will leave you craving more. I suggest spending the extra cash and buying the first and second seasons together you'll be glad you did, i was. to see my full review on the office see my second season review.

5 out of 5 starsI wish I would've started watching sooner!
Because I LOVE this series. It has a perfect blend of work and non-work related issues. Most series today aren't attractive because they focus too much on heavy or pointless things. Okay, so this series is basically about pointless things but the way it's written will have you laughing so hard! I usually don't enjoy stupid nonsensical humor (i.e. borat, scary movie, etc) but this is a great show and I don't have to worry about plots who's prime focus is "who is having sex with whom this week?" (i.e. "gossip girl") but is a brilliant intermingling of mood uplifting humor and situations in the workplace that many go through (i.e. weird or annoying co-workers for one) or can relate to. I get tired of shows like sex and the city or gossip girl or desperate housewives. I want something that will actually make me feel better about myself at the end.

5 out of 5 starsGreat start to a great series
The Office is such a funny television series. Season 1 started it all, and definitely got me hooked on the show. The first season only has six episodes because the show debuted as a mid-season replacement and was only on for six weeks. Here is a list of the six episodes that comprise Season 1:

"Pilot" - Originally aired March 24, 2005
"Diversity Day" - Originally aired March 29, 2005
"Health Care" - Originally aired April 5, 2005
"The Alliance" - Originally aired April 12, 2005
"Basketball" - Originally aired April 19, 2005
"Hot Girl" - Originally aired April 26, 2005

All six episodes are absolutely hilarious. Everyone in the cast is great and really make the show work. Also, look for a funny guest spot by Amy Adams in the "Hot Girl" episode.

Extras include some deleted scenes and commentary. There aren't quite as many extras included with Season 1 as there are in subsequent seasons.

If you haven't seen the show yet, start from the beginning with this season and it is sure to get you hooked. And if you are already a fan of The Office, you'll want to add Season 1 to your collection. The first season comes on one disc (since there are only 6 episodes) and in a standard DVD case. If you are collecting all of the seasons, just be aware that the other seasons come in a different box. The design change of the packaging was in large part necessary because the other seasons have multiple discs.

All in all, a great start to a great series! Sit back and enjoy it!

5 out of 5 starsGreat customer service
I did not receive the item I purchased so I notified the seller. He immediately refunded my money and I am very grateful! The DVD must have got lost in the mail or something, but I appreciate that he processed the refund right away. Thanks!
