Amazon.com: Mel Brooks's 1987 parody of the Star Wars trilogy is a jumble of jokes rather than a comic feature, and, predictably, some of those jokes work better than others. The cast, including Brooks in two roles, more or less mimics the principal characters from George Lucas's famous story line, and the director certainly gets a boost from new allies (SCTV graduates Rick Moranis and John Candy) as well as old ones (Dick Van Patten, Dom DeLuise). Watch this and wait for the sporadic inspiration--but don't be surprised if you find yourself yearning for those years when Brooks was a more complete filmmaker (Young Frankenstein). --Tom Keogh
May the SCHWARTZ be with you! "Not . . . again" gasps poor John Hurd (Alien) as (another!) alien baby bursts from his poor chest at the table at an intergalactic diner. But, this movie ain't Alien. The baby beastie immediately breaks into a song-and-dance number that should be familiar to all of you who know your Looney Tunes 'toons.
Mel Brooks, you have done it again. from hilarious character names (Dark Helmet, Pizza The Hut), to affectionate and dead-on spoofs of Star Wars and other space adventures, as well as our movie tie-in culture, you have once more hit the nail on the head.

An understatement to call this sophomoric Ditto to all the other 1-star reviews of this movie. It is painfully unfunny. One reviewer was on-target with his comment: If you want to watch a GOOD space-movie parody, get "Galaxy Quest". It pokes gentle but affectionate fun at Star Trek, Trekkies/Trekkers, etc., while also presenting an entertaining story. Something "Spaceballs" most definitely is not.
Still the greatest spoof of Star wars! This movie is just awesome and hilarious it really is a classic. If your a star wars fan this is a must. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed watching all the star wars movies and anime. This is a respectable spoof of the star wars film.
what a marvellous edition of this spoof classic Great spoof film and is one of Mel Brooks better films along with Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. This edition is loaded with great special features. The new documentaries are fun and informative, covering most aspects of the making of the movie from beginning till release. Most of the key players are involved which is great too. There are commentaries and other featurettes too. The transfer is excellent and they really show off the great effects which still stand up today. Pick this one up.
Listen, you royal pain in the .......... This is one of my favorite comedies. Mel Brooks does an incredible job in spoofing Star Wars and outer space movies in general. Mel Brooks even takes a page out the Steven King handbook by starring in his own movie as Yogart, the wise old dwarf who is like a jedi master from George Lucas' Star Wars, but instead of using the force, he has the powerful "Schwartz." He also stars as President Scroob; in charge of the Spaceballs (as in the Empire) and of Spaceball City. The movie also stars Bill Pullman (Independence Day), Daphne Zuniga (Melrose Place), John Candy (The Great Outdoors), Rick Moranis (Parenthood, Ghostbusters 1 and 2), JM. J. Bullock (Monroe from Too Close for Comfort), and Dom Deluise (Smokey and the Bandit 2 and Robin Hood: Men in Tights) as the voice of Pizza-the-Hut.
Mel Brooks takes on a voyage far far away where we encounter the Spaceballs who are bent on take planet Druidia's air because pm their planet, they're quickly loosing theres as you see President Scoob (Mel Brooks) opening a can of Perri-air. The you have Lone Star (Pullman) and Barf (Candy) who are flying in a Winnebego across the galaxy to save Princess Vespa (Zuniga) from the Spaceballs. The Spaceballs are trying to capture the Princess to use as leverage. When Lone Star saves the Princess, chasing him is Spaceball-1 lead by Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). Everything was ok as Lone Star was taking the Princess back to Druida when a crisis strikes. Lone Star must also find out about his past that needs some answers. He turns to Yoghurt (Mel Brooks) for answers and training to learn about the Schwartz; even more powerful than the force, lol.
Bill Pullman is an underrated actor as he doesn't get casted in those super high money-making blockbusters (with the exception of Independence Day).
There were so many plots in the movie but they all worked. You never went through the movie wondering what was going on between the many plots. The comedy was great and the laughs are all over the place. This is a definate classic and one of the greatest spoofs of all time. The DVD has the widescreen version and the only extras are behind the scenes look and some commentaries. The picture is good on a LCD TV. This is a must have for anyone who likes spoofs like Airplane, The Naked Gun, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Scary movie. It's a classic!
