Description: The farce is with you in this "uproarious salute to science fiction" (The Hollywood Reporter) that teams comedy legend Mel Brooks with an all-star cast of cutups including John Candy (Splash), Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters) and Bill Pullman (Ruthless People)! When the evil Dark Helmet (Moranis) attempts to steal all the air from planet Druidia, a determined Druish Princess (Daphne Zuniga), a clueless rogue (Pullman) and a half-man/half-dog creature who's his own best friend (Candy) set out to stop him! But with the forces of darkness closing in on them at ludicrous speed, they'll need the help of a wise imp named Yogurt (Brooks) and the mystical power of "The Schwartz" to bring peaceand merchandising rightsto the entire galaxy!
Amazon.com: Mel Brooks's 1987 parody of the Star Wars trilogy is a jumble of jokes rather than a comic feature, and, predictably, some of those jokes work better than others. The cast, including Brooks in two roles, more or less mimics the principal characters from George Lucas's famous story line, and the director certainly gets a boost from new allies (SCTV graduates Rick Moranis and John Candy) as well as old ones (Dick Van Patten, Dom DeLuise). Watch this and wait for the sporadic inspiration--but don't be surprised if you find yourself yearning for those years when Brooks was a more complete filmmaker (Young Frankenstein). --Tom Keogh
One cheeseball of a comedy movie Being a long time Star Wars fan, I thought that Mel Brook may have gone one evil empire too far here? I enjoyed the movie, but the character of Luke was pretty much left out? Anyway they never made a chapter eleven or 10 prequels did they? You realize that the last three prequels and the last paint into av corner episode all came after this "pigs in space" comedy.
hilarious spoof of sci-fi flicks I used to own this on DVD but now it's missing but it's still a great Mel Brooks movie, one of his better later films. I'm hoping to get an HDTV and Blu-ray player that way I can buy the Blu-ray version when it is released later this summer. Once again, a hilarious spoof of sci-fi franchises, primarily Star Wars and Star Trek.
Awesome Comedy and definite classic. Pick it up, must have. This movie is a classic and awesome. Space Balls is along the lines of Scary movie but better. I like scary movie but I am just saying it is a classic movie and classics are just awesome.
It parodies Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, Alien, ext and in a classic not stupid way. There are even some star trek refferences in here. I wish I would have known of this movie sooner. This one is not to be missed pick it up and enjoy it and trust me you will.
hilarious Very funny movie. John Candy is great.there is not much to be said except that it is worth watching .. especially since John Candy is in it! check it out.
Not as good as I remembered That is weird when you remember something as being funny, but when you see it again, it really isn't. I watched this with my kids, eek! We have enjoyed other spoof movies, Airplane, Scary Movie..., and this one was the worst I think we have seen. Plus, now it looks so dated. I am disappointed that this is the best they could come up with for Star Wars spoof. Doesn't make me want to watch more of Mel Brooks, maybe I'll let the kids give Monty Python a try. I almost bought this out of nostalgia, glad I rented first.
