5 out of 5 starsTHE BEST OF THE STAR TREK GENRE!!!
Avery Brooks Shakesperean talents caused all the other actors to take it up several notches, making these characters ones that you actually could give a damn about. Also why is it the first time that they give a Black Man the lead in a Star Trek series they put him in "Deep Space" & not just any "Deep Space", but the furthest physically & psychologically. They put the Black Man in Deep Space 9??? What is that all about except some 'ol racist B.S.

NEVERTHELESS, THIS SERIES SHONE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING WITH IT'S SPIRITUAL DIMENSION WHICH ONLY A BROTHER OF THIS CALIBER COULD BRING OFF. KUDOS TO YOU AVERY BROOKS AND TO YOUR FINE SUPPORTING CAST!!! BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!

5 out of 5 starsBest of Trek
Of all the Star Trek TV series,DS-9 is the best. The plots and action embodies fun and excitement.

5 out of 5 starsI love this TV show!
DS9 ,in my opinion, is the best Star Trek show out there. Not only did I love watching all seven seasons worth of episodes, but I got my husband hooked (he'd never seen them before). The bonus features are awesome.

5 out of 5 starsAll Things Star Trek
I am a true believer in all things Star Trek. Gene Rodenberry's idea, that each life form has a right to both exist & discover its purpose, mirror's the struggle of true liberalism which holds that all people are inalienably free & have the birth-right to discover their own life without religious imposition or "societal" interference. Star Trek Deep Space Nine is the third in five Star Trek series, boasting a wonderful & very capable array of characters & their actors. Runs seven seasons.

2 out of 5 starsA provocative concept gone astray
Back in the 90s, when I first heard all the hype about this show coming out and being a "dark" vision of Star Trek, I actually expected that I was going to see some kind of Gothic "Dark Shadows in space" [am I dating myself with that reference? :-)] where the crew travels to strange places and has bizarre adventures that would actually be scary! But instead the whole show just ended up becoming a bad soap opera involving a few eye-candy main characters and some bizarre-looking humanoid races that are trying to dominate each other, and rather mundane silliness involving devious Ferengis and scantily clad bar ladies. The aliens in most sci-fi shows like this today seem rather boring. Where are the really interesting ones, like the "Taelons" in "Earth Final Conflict"? Also, why couldn't they have tried to give Deep Space Nine a little more genuine weirdness, perhaps putting in some unexplored dimensions harboring a few deep, dark secrets? That would have commanded my attention, but frankly, today's producers don't seem to have the imagination to come up with such material! If they ever do, however, I would be much more interested in watching.
