Album Description: Phutureprimitive is the refreshing musical creation of Oregon-based DJ/Producer, Rain. The Phutureprimitive sound is subterranean electronic tribalism, combining elements of organic downtempo, ethnic breaks, and sensual atmospherics. Ethereal vocals soar over dubbed-out basslines, and live percussion unfolds over odd time signatures creating a groove that is influenced by the synthetic textures of psychedelic trance as well as the kinetic grooves of world music. Rain developed a love for electronic music early on, and began to hone his DJ skills in 1992, inspired by the early trance and goa releases of labels like Eye Q, Dragonfly, and T.I.P. The psychedelic textures embedded in the music of this era continue to be an influence on his production and style.
Not content to just spin music, Rain established the Phutureprimitive Sound Labs in 1996, and began to acquire the equipment and skills required to express himself musically. Expanding and enhancing the Phutureprimitive aesthetic, Leroy Espiricueta has joined Rain, bringing his talent as a musician and skills as a percussionist to the Labs. The haunting and sensual vocals of Alyssa Palmer also grace several songs on this album. The sonic primitives are working on music together, and exploring the creative process independently. Something deep and tribal has been growing in the Labs, unseen and unheard, until now. The first full-length experience from Phutureprimitive is ‘Sub Conscious’ – welcome and right at home, at the headquarters of downtempo and ambient dub - Waveform Records. A cinematic journey through Sub Conscious sound. Vibration for the imagination. Turn the lights down low - let your mind and body flow. ‘Sub Conscious’ by Phutureprimitive – another important transmission from Waveform Records.
great disc I only want to add to the list of reviews that give this disc a high rating - this is one of the best disc in this genre that I own. I also highly recommend checking out sofaspace.ch if you want to hear more great ambient music (commercial free!). Enjoy.
Ambient Psy Dub Tribal If you like ambient dub, psy-ambient tribal, or just plain good moody music then this is a must for your collection. This album has a very rich mystical feel to it which carries you along into a slightly dark yet also somehow comforting dimension of melded tribal rythms, mysterious vocal samples, and otherworldly sounds that weave, float and loop through your mind. This album is a must with headphones.
A track of note for me is Spanish Fly (Flemenco Dub Pt.1) ((where is part 2? hehe a future album perhaps?)) , which nicely blends some latin strings and vocals into an otherwise rich ambient tribal dub.
Every track on the album is good and they all fit nicely together in this collection. I recommend this one to anyone who likes a slightly dark mystical dub experience in sound.
Not shpongle, but excellent still Another reviewer rated this album low by comparison to Shpongle's 'Are you Shpongled?' - True, this isn't Shpongle, but it is still top-notch chill downtempo with a tribal twist. It is more organic that many other similar artists and deserves a few more stars for re-playability alone.
a master at work This IS dark chill electronic. Several groups attempt this but fall far short of the beauty this album unleashes. This is perfection. This is the one. This is for the times when words are not needed. Dim the lights alone or with some very close friends and treat yourself to a masterpiece.
GREAT BUY! All I have to say is great album. This is a must buy for anyone into Psy-Dub Ambient.
