Amazon.com: Just as A Bug's Life was a computer-animated comedy inspired by Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai, the funny and often enthralling Ice Age is a digital re-imagining of the Western Three Godfathers. The heroes of this unofficial remake (set 20,000 years ago, during the titular Paleolithic era) are a taciturn mastodon named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano), an annoying sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), and a duplicitous saber-toothed tiger, Diego (Denis Leary). The unlikely team encounters a dying, human mother who relinquishes her chirpy toddler to the care of these critters. Hoping, against all odds, to return the little guy to his migrating tribe, Manfred and his associates need to establish trust among themselves, not an easy thing in a harsh world of predators, prey, and pushy glaciers. Audiences that have become accustomed to the rounded, polished, storybook look of Pixar's house brand of computer animation (Monsters, Inc.) will find the blunt edges and chilly brilliance of Ice Age--evoking the harsh, dangerous environment of a frozen world--a wholly different, and equally pleasing, trip. Recommended for ages 4 and up. --Tom Keogh
Fun movie My 2.5 yr old son loves this movie. I did have some trouble with the actual dvd but amazon was great replacing it.
Ice age, not so cool edition If you have the super cool edition on DVD and a good upconversion DVD player, keep it. Picture quality not worth the upgrade. The movie itself is great. Very funny/entertaining.
Ice Age One of the BEST!
Well worth the watch. Humour galore from the word "go."
Now waiting for Ice Age 3, for Ice Age 2 is remarkably VERY good as well.
Funniest movie ever. Kids and adults can both enjoy this movie. So many levels of entertainment. And Scrat is just the best. So funny.
Lo-res original, does not do justice to BluRay's capabilities This movie is reasonably old and it shows. It is very low res when compared to newer, better computer graphics movies, like Ice Age The Meltdown and Rattatouille. It shows very much like the standard DVD, without any of the high resolution features you expect from a Blu-Ray movie. You can't see the details of the hairs in Mannie (The Mamoth), Diego (the Tiger) or Sid (the Sloth). A bit disappointing in the graphics point of view. Of course, the movie is great. Buy the standard DVD version, same quality.
