Amazon.com:
Tell you what: Whether King of the Hill can usurp the throne occupied by The Simpsons as TV's royal animated family is something for the Hank vs. Homer contingents to duke out. But with this fit-for-a-king DVD set, the Hills of Arlen, Texas, can emerge from the shadows of their Springfield brethren. Co-created by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, the cult classic Office Space) and Simpsons veteran Greg Daniels, this brilliant series boasts an impeccable voice cast, bull's-eye writing, and the most rollicking theme music on television.

Unlike The Simpsons, which got a running start on The Tracey Ullman Show, the Hills may take a little warming up to. In the pilot episode, Hank Hill (voiced by Judge) is more a quick-to-temper redneck than good ol' boy. But as this inaugural season unfolds, he empathetically struggles to be the voice of reason in an ever-changing world where his substitute teacher wife, Peggy (Kathy Najimy), is forced to teach sex ed (Hank's spit take when the repressed Peg blurts out the word "vagina" is worthy of Danny Thomas), his son Bobby (Pamela Segall) wants to be a prop comic, and his neighbor, Dale (Johnny Hardwick), finds government conspiracies under every grassy knoll. But Hank is that sitcom rarity: A good man and father who is devoted to his job (selling propane and propane accessories) and his family, which includes Peggy's niece, nubile aspiring beautician Luanne (Brittany Murphy). For the uninitiated, disc 2 of this three-disc set may make a more favorable first impression. It contains three of the season's best episodes, among them "Shins of the Father," which pits Peggy against Hank's incorrigibly sexist father (when Peggy tells him that Bobby is a good helper in the kitchen, he responds, "Whatever you say, Hillary"). The set is loaded with features, from deleted scenes to episode commentaries by the series' creators and the characters themselves. Welcome to home video, Hills. We'll get the barbecue started. --Donald Liebenson

5 out of 5 starsking of the sitcoms
King of the Hill is one of the greatest animated adults cartoons for a number of reasons

One, the show's been around for YEARS now, and guess what? The quality of the writing hasn't lost a step the entire time. How many shows can we say THAT about? Even South Park and the Simpsons, as much as I love those shows, hasn't been able to keep up the same kind of enjoyable consistency over the years.

Two, the storylines are so simple, and yet, THAT'S exactly what makes the show so appealing. Just a Texas family that well, lives like Texans. Nothing fancy, and there's a lot of realistic and accurate things in the show that gives King of the Hill a very family-oriented feel. So in a way, it's also a childrens show (except they mention sexual content sometimes).

Third, over 200 episodes! It's great when a good show gets to experience their full potential. Over 200 episodes (and counting) should please anyone who likes the quality of the writing.

The only problem with Season One is the same problem ALL animated shows have- the animation doesn't look as polished as it would soon appear just a couple years later. The writing is highly memorable anyway though, and that's the most important thing to remember.

4 out of 5 starsOne more Christmas
Again the shipmet came together, it came really quickly, and my brother enjoyed it for his Christmas!

4 out of 5 starsExcept for the quality, it is still a good program!!!
My only complaint is that maybe my DVD set might have poor quality. The colors go from bright to dim in seconds. Except for that problem, I wished that they had a French subtitles but they have three for Spanish alone. The DVD set about the Hill family who live in Arlen, Texas and their friends and relatives. I didn't know that right off the bat that Hank Hill's father, Cotton Hill, was already a war veteran and verbally abusive. Of course, I love Peggy Hill who is the substitute teacher of the year and very proud of that. She tries too hard but always for the right reason. In the show, Peggy is the voice of reason and conscience. Then they are Hank's friends who gulp beer and talk on the street like Bill, the lonely divorcee, the guy who believes who aliens and conspiracies but refuses to acknowledge his wife's affair with John Redcorn, the Texas native, as anything more than business or that his son is not his but John Redcorn. Then there is Boomhower, the stud bachelor, who gets all the girls. Peggy and Hank Hill have one son, Bobby, because of Hank's narrow urethra. Peggy's niece, Luann, stays with them. Poor Luann, her mother is in prison and a father nowhere to be seen. It's not outrageous or too crazy to believe but I love this show because it has a lot of heart too.

5 out of 5 starsClever show
We love this show. I got these for my mom for her birthday because she loves the "Hank's Got the Willies" episode, featuring Willie Nelson, Dennis Hopper, and our own hometown boy, Lyle "Rooster Boy" Lovett and his Large Hair. The bit with Boomhauer and Bob Dylan mumbling at one another is absolutely priceless!

5 out of 5 starsReview for King of the HIll First Season
I got King of the Hill First Season for my Grandson for Christmas.
He just loves it. I was talking to his mom on the phone the other night and he was watching King of the Hill and I could hear him just laughting his head off.
He loves it.
I intend to buy more from you for the next holiday. I will probably get the Second Complete Season of King of the Hill.
Also you got the CD to the right address and really fast. I like that.
Thanks Again
Mary
