Amazon.com's Best of 2001: Nicole Kidman playing a singing prostitute? Ewan McGregor channeling the Police? If the soundtrack to director Baz Luhrmann's freakish musical Moulin Rouge has its way, we'll all be wearing corsets and swinging from the ceiling while the former Mrs. Tom Cruise becomes our favorite new pop sensation. As daring as Luhrmann himself, the compositions test Kidman--who could have easily used a league of backup singers and studio knob-twiddlers to hide her inexperience--and she actually passes. She's no Olivia Newton-John, but she capably mixes Madonna's "Material Girl" with "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" (which is as breathy as Marilyn would've wanted it to be) and goes full throttle on any medley thrown her way. Her cover of "One Day I'll Fly Away" is especially poignant given her much-publicized personal tragedies. Ewan, though, is a real star; his giggly schoolboy brogue morphs into a fun cradle for Paul McCartney's Wings as well as U2's Bono on "Elephant Love Medley." Beck's cover of David Bowie's "Diamond Dogs" is a hit waiting to happen, while Pattie LaBelle's '70s staple "Lady Marmalade" (remade by an all-star cast of divas, Lil' Kim and Christina Aguilera among them) already is. A delicious, racy soundtrack that is equal parts cabaret, glam rock, and trip-hop, Moulin Rouge doesn't disappoint. -Kristy Martin

Moulin Rouge Excelent sound track to an excelent movie. cd was in decent condition, a few small scratches here and there but other then that completely satisfactory
Okay This CD wasn't my favortie but, it has some great songs. I have never seen the movie, but listening to the soundtrack definatley made me want to see the movie.
Fun! A great way to keep the movie fresh for fans. Soundtracks are the next natural step for a fan of a movie, especially a musical. This particular recording is evocative and entertaining. I've been a fan of Baz Luhrmann for ages. He has a big quirky sense of humor but still packs emotion into his work. The movie itself is a fast paced fun romp and the music completely inspired. Some may be thrown by the use of familiar songs in the movie but they all fit beautifully. The soundtrack uses the familiar to set the mood well. Songs are used in quick succession, in tandem and often paired in medleys with new compositions. Enjoyable, mood provoking and nostalgic all at once. All the musical numbers are fun but some took me by surprise. I especially was taken by the tango number using The Police's "Roxanne." The performances are wonderful. I really enjoyed Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman and the rest of the cast. Well done! Heck, it's a great CD to get you moving while doing housework. How many soundtracks can you say this about?
As disappointing as the 2nd one, but a little better... I first bought Moulin Rouge 2 soundtrack because I wanted the songs from the movie w/ the actual singers. But it sucked.... you get Ewan MacGregor singing with some unknown chic, or Nicole Kidman singing a remix with some random guy. Remixes and different people. Uggg. I was looking to buy this CD because the track listing says that Nicole and Ewan actually sing *together* on it for a few songs, but apparently the songs are changed from the way they are in the movie?? This stinks!
Why buy a motion picture soundtrack if you don't like it... Of course I like this soundtrack. I enjoyed the music from the movie.
This isn't a toaster oven so you should know if you like it or not before you purchase it. If your not sure then you may wish to check it out at the library.
