Not Enough Ram I wish I had done my homework before purchasing this system. It has half the ram of an regular xbox console. Game performance was slow. Navigating was slow. Size is great. It will fit anywhere.
The original PS2 redefined! I had one of the original PS2s for about 6 months before I bought this one to replace it. This new model is a huge improvement over the previous model!
So what's to like about it? If I were to compare this model to the previous model, I'd first point out the difference in size. It's amazing how small the system got. With my previous PS2, I didn't have any room on my TV wall in order to display it so I would have to store it and take it out anytime I wanted to play. With the new model, I have plenty of room to display it. Second, it's not as loud as the original. The previous model had a fan that was rather noisy. If I was playing at night and didn't want to wake up my family members, I had a hard time hearing what was going on during the game because the fan would overpower the sound on my tv. This particular model is much quieter.
In terms of the positives in general, this video game system is one of the best. There is an amazing selection of games to choose from (from Spongebob games for kids to Grand Theft Auto games for adults). The graphics are great depending on which game you play. I'll admit that I don't play my PS2 that often anymore but the games I DO play (Dance, Dance Revolution, Thrillville, The Sims, Shrek 2, and Midnight Club 2... an eclectic group of games, huh) make this game worth the $130 I paid for it. Also, if you have a PS1, the games from that system will play on this one.
As far as accessories go, I love that you have the ability to purchase wireless controllers. You're going to have to purchase a memory card somewhere down the line because the games don't save automatically. If you intend on having more than one person play, an extra controller is another necessary purchase. The PS2 is also able to play DVDs however I suggest you purchase a DVD remote if you intend to use this option often.
What's not to like? Not much. As I said above, it's one of the best video game systems in my opinion. Although there are a few different systems that have been released semi-recently, the PS2 still stands on its own. It's unfortunate that the PS2 may be obsolete in a couple of years with the release of the PS3. I am hesitant to buy more games for my PS2 because it would be a waste of money if I couldn't easily buy accessories or more games easily sometime in the near future.
If you're looking to buy a PS2, be sure to get this model. The small size and low amount of noise will win you over.
save and save often the slim version of the ps2 is a cute little system, easer to pack away when you are moving from place to place. however there is one flaw, it has no fan and will frequently turn itself off for no apperent reason. some time it over heats, sometimes it just decides it really doesn't want to play that movie. while i would recomend getting a ps2 i would look for its bulkier cousin, for while its bulky it has not heating problems, and doesn't have a mind of its own
Love the slimmer version I actually have the silver version of this new PS2 but I'm too lazy to search for it on here. Anyway, it's very small and works great! Nothing else to say!
Best Console Yet $129.00 US. You can't get much nowadays for $129. The PS2 has great graphics, a wide selection of games to play, and plays DVDs better than most DVD players. As of this date, the PS3 is falling behing on sales and the PS2 is still selling more than its Blueray graphics powerhouse offspring. Why do you ask? It doesn't cost that much and there are thousands of great games to play including the Final Fantasy series, the Grand Theft Auto series, Red Faction, tons of sport games, and games from all over the spectrum. The only drawback to the PS2 is that it only has 2 controller ports and you have to buy an adapter to play with more people and there aren't many games you can play with more than 2 people anyways. If Final Fantasy isn't your cup of tea, there's still plenty of fighting, driving, and sports games to fulfill your every desire. And on top of all that, they are still coming out with games for it even though the PS3 has come out. There is still plenty of life left in this console and when it comes down to what you're really looking for in a gaming console, it has it all.
