Raw Emotions A decent and plausible adventure film from star/screen-writer/producer Ronny Cox (DELIVERANCE, TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOP, BEVERLY HILLS COP). Three cross-country marathon runners (Cox, Art Hindle-PORKY'S, and Tim Maier)embark on a trek across the desert wilderness and run into a group of weekend survivalists. Things get out of hand as the group (led by M. Emmett Walsh as Col.Crouse) start harrassing the runners. Their simple yet arduous desert run turns into a game of survival againts the elements and againts "gun-toting crazies". The film is sort of a cross between DELIVERANCE, THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME,and LORD OF THE FLIES. The film starts out slow as each of the runners are introduced in indiviual scenes. They are shown getting up to start the day and are preparing for their long run. Each has their own minor peeves or problems to worry about in their daily lives. At first the problems seem contrived and mundane. However, as they run into the survivalist group, they realise how trivial their problems are compared to what they are about to encounter. Their run goes off smoothly and peacefully and then out of nowhere, they run into the survival group. It then begins to be a battle of wits and survival between heavily armed and equiped survivalist and the superior "in-shape" cross-country runners Characters to care about, some great desert locations,a plausible script, and a very emotional gut-wretching ending, makes this a good adventure film and raises the question about how far should one go and to what extremes to defend oneself in a life-threatening situation.
