At a time when listeners increasingly download or upload songs, creating personal playlists on MP3 players and I-Pods, the art of packaging music seems to be fading away. But, for more than 50 years, musicians have released their work inside brilliantly-designed packages that made an important statement about their music and style. Look at the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Band, for example—just one of the 500 memorable images in this amazing collection, all chosen by a panel of 50 experts and each accompanied by enlightening commentary. Among the choices: the brilliantly psychedelic and way-out art from the Rolling Stones’ Their Satanic Majesties Request; Peter Tosh’s fiery cover for Bush Doctor; and the somewhat demented-looking prom queen on Hole’s Live Through This album. From rock to pop, jazz to blues, these are all artistically, stylistically, and culturally significant in their own way, and will undoubtedly spark a debate with fans around the world.
very nice hardcover coffee table book great for browsing - loved the artwork!!! A great buy!!! Bought several as x-mas gifts and will buy more for B-day gifts
Just what my husband wanted! I ordered too late for my husband to receive this one for Christmas but he was delighted anyway! Arrived is great shape and was what he expected. Thank you much.
Judge an Album By Its Cover A fun book for fans of album cover art, especially those of us who remember vinyl. Great pictures, and well-written, interesting stories on the whos, whys, and hows of some of the classic album covers of the past half century.
The Greatest? REALLY????? This book seems to be the greatest album covers that the authors could get rights to use. Is the Ohio Player's Fire (featuring an oiled-up woman sensuously holding a fire hose) a greater cover than Led Zeppelin IV? An album cover or Bjork staring at the camera is greater than Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic or Pump?
This book has a few interesting facts (like if you really want to know who's crotch is featured on the Rolling Stone's Sticky Fingers), but otherwise was not all that great.
Album Cover Book My nephew and husband both spent hours reading and enjoying this book - they both collect record albums.
