Product Description: In Volume One we reprinted the first three storylines from this classic American comic strip. With Volume Two we continue our reprinting of the complete run of Leonard Starr's Mary Perkins On Stage with six complete storylines from 1958 and 1959, with an introduciton by Kurt Busiek.
Excellent - Features a Young Larry Hagman! This is a very entertaining comic, and is beautifully drawn. In 1958, artist Leonard Starr used then unknown 26 year old actor Larry Hagman as a model for "On Stage" character Jed Potter. Most people are only familiar with Hagman from the mid-1960s on, and may not recognize him as a very young man. I assure you, Starr captures him beautifully - an excellent likeness! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the entire book is in black and white. I would have liked to see the Sunday comics presented in their original color.
Volume 2 of this classic series! The short and sweet of it: If you purchased volume 1 of this classic comic strip reprint, you MUST buy this book. If you bought this volume, but have yet to purchase volume 1, then you need to buy that as well.
But it doesn't stop there. If you appreciate excellent writing and superlative artwork, then volumes 3 and 4 and the soon-to-be-released volume 5 are also must-haves. Get them now, and you'll be profoundly thanking me later!
Great Artist! Wonderful book. Leonard Starr is a wonderful artist and this compliation of Mary Perkins on Stage strips is great. Beautifully drawn and fun to read.
