Product Description: "Sex on the Side" is a sweet love story with a strong comedic flavor, a step above the typical romantic comedy.
From the very beginning, readers are immersed in the titillating story of Josh John as he tries to convince the women in his life that he is worth so much more than great sex. That topic alone may have been enough for a different kind of writer but not Jessie Jamie Coleman―she has a few tricks up her sleeves.
"Sex on the Side" follows a young man as he learns to stand up for himself, speak his mind and pursue what's important to him. The story catapults to greatness with the introduction of Dr. Berry. Dr. Berry is quite funny as the quack psychologist who is obviously more in need of therapy than his patients. He gives us outrageous and bizarre characterization that leads to clever dialogue and gives the tale the edge and uniqueness that we so love and admire.
This romantic tale is not just about romance. It's about something much more important―empowering yourself and going for what you really want at all costs. Josh John, a hopeless romantic, is convinced that the world is populated with sex-starved women. Throughout his days and nights, he is bombarded with vivacious, sultry women, visiting his apartment, even accosting him on the street. Though he shares some enjoyable moments with these women, Josh grows tired of the overwhelming attention. It has gone on long enough and he wants so much more.
When Josh finally meets the girl that he believes is like no other, we learn the true meaning of pulling out all stops. Just when we think the story has come to a successful conclusion, the writer throws us a curve, proving once again that true comedy is totally unpredictable.
Coleman's story picks up hot and heavy steam in the middle and hurtles to a memorable, feel-good conclusion. With the author's infused dialogue and charged action, Coleman makes it clear in no uncertain terms that she is a major new voice in the literary world.
"Sex on the Side" is a unique story filled with quick wit and many surprises and there are no lulls in this book, so get comfortable because you will read it all in one sitting. It's easy to read without being overly descriptive, and her characters are people we would love to meet. Readers will be impressed by this comedy in so many ways.
Oh, my, where to start? J. is an attorney with the problem of being irresistable to the opposite sex.
One woman is so needy, she manages to call and show up at the home he shares with his lesbian ex-wife.
After being in contact with a therapist and getting psychic information about the one, he is off to the races.
Here are the problems within the story: his therapist is a loon, who spouts out information appropo of nothing, at least nothing involving J., and he isn't really sure who the "one" is, just that her initials are KC, and a woman named Kember has just started to work for his firm.
Here are the problems with this book for me, as a reader: there was no plot to speak of, there was no character building and there was no start, middle, nor ending to this story. It was as if I wondered into a play that started before I got there and then while I went to intermission, it kept going. Say it with me, "cognitive dissonance"!
To give the writer her due, she says on the first page it is a screenply and should be read as such. I found it so painful that I returned it to Amazon for a partial refund. So, I am probably the one that accounts for the half star in the reviewers ratings.
Happy reading, all.
(RAW Rating: 3.5) - Sex on the Side In SEX ON THE SIDE: A Screenplay, sexy and funny Josh John is looking for love everlasting but he just seems to stumble upon prospects who are only looking for one-night stands. However for the short time they are in his arms they all seem to love his savvy style of making them feel special.
Life seems to be just as uncertain for his coworker and best friend Rob, who seems to have a major case of cold feet. Unbeknownst to him Helen, the woman he loves but just can't seem to bring himself to marry, makes the decision for him. Leaving him to wonder, like Josh, just what he is doing wrong.
Jessie Jamie Coleman has put together a screenplay that is very funny; however, at times there are too many characters jumping into the scene who have nothing to do with the storyline. I found myself going back too often to see what role that person played in the previous scenes. I would enjoy seeing this play on stage, just not with all those women thrown in as alternate distractions. Only the significant ones that make the story work are needed with emphasis centered on the main character's voice.

Sex on the Side... I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover. It's a great love story. Inspiring!
Tables turned on men! Reviewed by Audrey Hauser for Reader Views (9/06)
This was the first screenplay I had read so I wasn't sure just what to expect. The concept however, is quite hilarious. Instead of the females being the proverbial sex symbols of the story, the tables are turned and we have a male in that role. Josh John is getting tired of the women falling all over him with just one thing in mind. He is ready for a real relationship -- one that will lead to a future with that person.
The story begins in the Chicago apartment shared by Josh, an attorney, and his former girlfriend Billie, who has "come out" and now prefers partners of her sex rather than Josh. A knock on the door signals the arrival of Kandy, one of the sex kittens pursuing Josh. She makes no pretense of the fact that she is there simply for the sex and doesn't want a real relationship. Josh resists, but in the end gives in. It is over quickly and she leaves. Josh refers to her as the 16-minute woman.
Scene two finds Josh with his therapist revealing what happened with Kandy, and his feelings about this. Dr. Barry is a rather strange therapist that Josh sees more to give the doctor reassurance than to solve his problems. He keeps a stuffed elephant in his office to make his patients feel at ease. Josh also confides in his friend Rob about his desire to meet the "right one" and settle down. Rob can't understand why he'd want to do this when there are countless women running after him wanting sex.
Josh spends the next few weeks trying to avoid the come-ons from women around him. He even lets himself be talked into visiting a palm reader. She tells him his future mate will have the initials KC. From that time he begins to concentrate on finding this KC. He becomes interested in the girl assigned to him as his temporary secretary. It turns out that her name is Kember and yes, her last name starts with C. Josh tries to win her over but she won't go out with him while she is working for him. The solution comes when she was assigned to work for someone else, but Josh is convinced she is trying to avoid him with excuses about working late. The plot thickens when he finds out Kember is a sister to Kandy.
This is an entertaining spoof on having the tables turned with the man being the object of interest, for a change. While it would have to be developed much further to make a good film, I think the start is here. I enjoyed reading this offbeat story and "Sex on the Side" kept me laughing throughout the story.
What A Man.... What A Man Josh John has a problem that most men would consider a privilege- he's irresistable to women. And Josh's quack psychiatrist, Dr. Berry, adds some gut-busting levity to this screenplay that goes unmatched by even some of today's popular sitcoms.
Although Sex on the Side is a fast read, it is highly entertaining and a delightful treat.
