Wonderful Series for Young Advanced Readers My six year old daughter loves these books! I purchased the books # 1 through #19 which were written by the original author. My daughter is reading at about a 4th grade level. These books are easy to read. She tries to figure out the clues and solve the mysteries. This summer she is reading 1 book every 2 days. They are each about 125 to 160 pages. The best part is the stories are totally appropriate for her age, yet are at a higher reading level than 1st grade. The characters are great! The books are very similar in theme, although each story covers different topics. There is historical information and other facts to be learned - even things I did not know. The books numbered 20 and above are not written by the original author. Some of them have a few more advanced words to read. I think all of the books would be appropriate for late 2nd or 3rd grade reading level. Older children may enjoy the books, or they may tire of the similar themes.
Very good buy for the price My grandson wanted to read the "Boxcar children" series. I ordered these online. The shipping was fast and they arrived in wonderful condition. He's enjoying owning these very much. Thanks for the good buy.
Classic series - kids love it! I have been teaching over 20 years and have used this series for at least half that time. Just read the first book to your students and they are hooked! I have a huge collection of Boxcar Children books and several duplicates which they love to read in twos or threes. Of course, the best of the series are the first 3 but my students still enjoy the others. Right now I am in the middle of the Yellow House Mystery (book #3) and they would not let me stop reading today. They started chanting, "Read it, read it!!" I'm talking about 2nd graders...7 or 8 years old sitting with rapt attention and then cheering, moaning, looking frightened, etc. It's absolutely amazing. I'm going to buy two new sets of books 1-4 and 5-8 to keep just for myself and give to my grandchildren some day. I love these books. Go, Gertrude!
Good Books I enjoyed reading these books when I was young. Now my children and I are enjoying them together.
Good gift for young readers I gave this to my younger brother who is in the 6th grade. He likes to read mysteries and has to read every night. He liked to read these books, since they are not too scary and are at an appropriate reading level for him.
