Everything good except...one...twist... Loved most of the novel and the twist on cable. But man did one twist really make me go "What the ****" But still an enjoyable volume, good art, ok dialog, could be better but it had a good story so it's forgiven.
A Surprise Inside This volume is packed with action from the start to the finish. It starts off with the introduction of Cable to the Ultimate Universe, as he busts into Xavier's looking to kidnap someone. In the course of the battle, a big surprise is revealed that will change the course of the X-men. While Cable is not successful in his first attempt, it sets up a second attempt that climaxes at the end of the book. Overall, I felt that the story was exciting, and the pace of the action kept the book lively. I'd like to read more action oriented stories in comics, and if you're looking for action, this volume will satisfy.
Made me love a hateable concept I hate Cable I hate Bishop and timetraveling. I still think it's soon for Cable. But it was cool, nicely done. Some right choices
Kirkman's best UXM since Date Night Spoilers! The people who complain that Cable is supposed to be the future cyborg son of Cylops and Jean don't get the point here. Cable started out without an origin. Marvel needed a new leader for the New Mutants and decided they wanted a strict military type character to contrast with Xavier. The writers immediately made Cable's personality a generic Wolverine clone along with a million other comic characters created in the 90's. The Scott and Jean conection was only shoe-horned in several years later.
So now Kirkman's making him what he should have been all along: Wolverine. Of course he could be lying... wait and see. But this book has great action, twists and turns, intelligent use of characters. And as always Robert Kirkman's dialog makes every book he writes more believable and humorous.
Trying a new direction Kirkman's run on ultimate x-men has left me feeling very disappointed. His other books are well known for great plot lines and superb character development, but he seems to have lost his magic in this title. The twist on ultimate cable is one that no one will see coming and the ending could potentially, if developed properly, lead to very interesting story lines in the future. The book itself is a decent read but nothing that is truly ground breaking or innovative. If you have been reading the series thus far you will buy this book regardless of what I thought of it....however if you are a first time reader looking to give Ultimate X-Men a try I recommend you pick up one of the earlier volumes.
