5 out of 5 starsA new hero arises ^
When Legion, illigitamite son of Charles Xavier, traveled back in time to kill Magneto and accidently killed Xavier, an alternate world was created called the Age of Apocalypse in which Xavier never lived to form the X-Men and Apocalypse took over North America and most of the world. All the regular X-titles were put in hiatus for four months and replaced with alternate titles. X-Man (Cable) tells the story of young Nate Grey; a mysterious mutant created from the DNA of Scott "Cyclops" Summers and Jean Grey who is the most powerful mutant on the planet and is destined to face Apocalypse. Jeph Loeb's intricate writing is chock full of surprises and twists, and Nate's slugfest with Mr. Sinister is a must see. Even after the AoA saga concluded, X-Man continued to be a monthly title for a few years with Loeb at the helm in the beginning. All in all, X-Man is one of the best stories in the AoA storyline, and I strongly suggest looking up the Twilight of the Age of Apocalypse TPB to see Nate go toe to toe with Apocalypse and Holocaust.

4 out of 5 starsA new hero arises ^
Welcome to hell on earth. North America is ruled by an evil mutant called Apocalypse. His kingdom only lives by one rule: Survivial of the fittest. Humans are regarded as the lower class and even not all mutants will be survive in this world. This all happened because Professor Charles Xavier never existed. Thus he never got to form the X-Men to appose Apocalypse.

But Mister Sinister doesn't agree with this "Survivial of the fittest" idea, even though he's one of the chosen horsemen. Sinister HAD to stop him, if he wants to continue his research on creating the perfect species. So he created Nate Grey, aka X-Man - the most powerful mutant ever - to defeat Apocalypse. This TPB is about how Nate learns about his powers and his destiny. And pursues it.

The art is above average and the story is pretty good. You find out about Nate's past and destiny with him. There are some twists in the story with some surprising events and features a surprise cameo, who's role in this story is also kinda ironic.

These stories won't mean much if you haven't read this AoA storyline from the start. If you get this, I recommend you get all the other AoA TPBs too. For a complete reading list of it, see my X-Men: LegionQuest review.

5 out of 5 starsthe best book ever ^
