Amazon.com: Who would have guessed that this clever, fast-paced creature feature from 1990 would become a beloved miniclassic worthy of its own Collector's Edition DVD? Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. Followed by a direct-to-video sequel (Tremors: Aftershocks), this horror thriller was given the deluxe treatment for its DVD release. Bonus features include an original "making-of" documentary, previously unseen video showing the creation of the worm-creatures, outtakes from the film, the original ending not shown in theaters, theatrical trailers, and a gallery of production photographs. If you're a fan, consider this a must-have disc! --Jeff Shannon
Tremors? More like yawns ^ Don't get me wrong. I also loved this movie the first five times I saw it. It's a real cult classic. The small desert town of Perfection is attacked by large, underground monsters. AND THEY EAT PEOPLE. And no, it's not really a horror movie. It's more like a comic show. If you liked "Ghostbusters", "Evolution" or "The Blob", you'll gonna love this one.
However, I have to admit that I've outgrown this movie. These days, I just yawn when I see it. Usually, I don't even watch the reruns. "Yeah, yeah, there's a monster beneath the hardware store. Whatever".
For old times sake, however, I'll give it five stars anyway. BTW, did you know that smorgasbord is a Swedish loanword?
TAKING A BITE OUT OF PERFECTION ^ Kevin Bacon, and Fred Ward as two ne'er-do-well handymen in a 2-horse town are hilarious in this wonderfully inventive creature-feature. This is one of those little gems in the genre of horror that starts out firing on all cylinders, and doesn't let up. The humor, and dialogue are every bit as fast-paced as the action. The special effects, are great, and the acting ( including Reba McEntire's ) is first-rate. Great stuff.
Tremors ^ Trying to escape their dead-end life in the desert town of Perfection, Nevada, Valentine McKee and Earl Bassett find themselves sidetracked when corpses mysteriously start piling up around them. When Val and Earl have a run-in with some creepy tentacled creatures that have made lunch out of a road crew, they retreat back to the town to spread the news. Although these monsters are not exactly intellectuals, their mental powers are still mind-boggling. Detecting a human hiding in a car, they dig under the vehicle, causing it to sink into the earth. Val and Earl get help from several townspeople. With the help of Rhonda, Val and Earl kill one of the monsters. But there are three of them left, and they are each about 30 feet long. Walter starts calling the monsters graboids. When the survivors think they have outwitted the graboids by taking refuge atop the roofs of buildings, the graboids merely destroy the buildings' foundations, killing two people. The graboids are quick learners when it comes to stalking their prey, and the humans must continually be on their toes if they are to stay alive while they try to find a way to defeat the graboids. "Tremors" succeeds in what it sets out to be, an exciting and wonderfully entertaining horror thriller. A lot of fun and highly recommended.
Awesome movie ^ i actually bought this HD DVD because i recently purchased a hd dvd player for my xbox 360, and this movie was only about 3$ including shipping, so i couldn't pass up the deal. i mainly bought it because i can't find my VHS version and i wanted a better copy anyway! The picture has excellent quality and the sound compared to the VHS is....well... a huge leap (duh).
Reba is in it ^ I bought this movie because Reba Mac is in it & I like her. The movie is ok. Closer to kind of dumb. Large killer worms go after humans. Real ugly things (the worms). They travel under the ground then pop out. It's on tv quite a lot. One ate a car.
