An odd idea ^ This is a collection of manga based of the Ace Attorney series. While that sentence may cause you to draw a few conclusions, don't let it. I'll get this out of the way first: none of this is created by those affiliated with the game, nor are the stories very intriguing or based on happenings in the series. The potential of the stories is limited by their lengths due to the amount contained in this book, so none are very developed. The stories being both fan-made and short, the stories only occasionally even relate to court or relationships between characters, and the storylines are of course quite simple. For example, one features an eating contest at Tres Bien in which a few of the main characters happen to meet up. Another does feature court, but no details of the case, defendant, or witnesses. That story focuses on Phoenix being sick during a court session, doing things such as making an "Objection!" sign. That kind of humor is OK once in a while, but not for a whole book. The art, while by no means terrible at any point, is less professional and appealing. Only so much can fit into a 20-page manga story--if this were fan-made but were a full-length volume of one story, that would be much more satisfactory. If you want good new stories, read fanfiction online. If you want real manga based on this series, I'm afraid I can't help you.
Good Manga but Not What I Expected ^ This was an OK manga but the story is not at all canon (sp?) with the Phoenix Wright universe. Every chapter is also written and drawn by different mangakas so all of the artsyles are different. I was really hoping that it'd be done by one person (whoever drew the artwork on the cover) but unfortunately it didn't happen.
Still worth a read if you're a Phoenix Wright fan.
It's great, but don't be misled ^ This is something a lot of Phoenix Wright (or just Ace Attorny fans in general) have been wanting. More of Phoenix, Maya, and the others. However, don't be fooled by the title. While it is apparently an official collection of manga stories, it's not exactly written by anyone involved with the games themselves. In that same vein, each story tends to have a different art style, and some of them don't always portray beloved characters (such as Mia or Edgeworth) quite as nicely as they were in games. It's not the best in the world (that would have been something made by the people at Capcom), but for us starving fans who are waiting endlessly for the new Edgeworth game, it certainly helps pass the time.
Not what I was expecting ^ Don't be fooled by the 'official' look of this book - it is only an official collection of disparate fan-made comics. The quality of most of the writing is fanfic level at best, and most of the art is wholly removed from the style of the games. And what's more, it's pretty haphazardly put together.
Don't bother getting this - if you want your Ace Attorney fix, look online for translations of the great official manga.
Big Fan; I thought it was very funny! ^ I'm fourteen and I've completed all games in the Ace Attorney series. I've enjoyed every one very much, and I got all my friends hooked on this franchise. One of my friends found this 'manga' at Borders one day, and let me borrow it. And I for one, found it very amusing!
The book doesn't have a storyline, but is a kind of collage of mini stories all put in one. The many different art styles are fun, and it was nice to read all the artist notes at the end. They all were Ace Attorney fans who gladly contributed to this book.
Some of the stories in this book are serious, but others were VERY funny. Especially when Maya finds a cat. I'm not going to spoil, but that was just one of the stories I thoroughly enjoyed.
Anyway, all in all, I thought this was great, coming from a huge fan. You should be able to just find this at a local book store in the manga section, like my friend did.
