It's great, but don't be misled This is something a lot of Phoenix Wright (or just Ace Attorny fans in general) have been wanting. More of Phoenix, Maya, and the others. However, don't be fooled by the title. While it is apparently an official collection of manga stories, it's not exactly written by anyone involved with the games themselves. In that same vein, each story tends to have a different art style, and some of them don't always portray beloved characters (such as Mia or Edgeworth) quite as nicely as they were in games. It's not the best in the world (that would have been something made by the people at Capcom), but for us starving fans who are waiting endlessly for the new Edgeworth game, it certainly helps pass the time.
Not what I was expecting Don't be fooled by the 'official' look of this book - it is only an official collection of disparate fan-made comics. The quality of most of the writing is fanfic level at best, and most of the art is wholly removed from the style of the games. And what's more, it's pretty haphazardly put together.
Don't bother getting this - if you want your Ace Attorney fix, look online for translations of the great official manga.
Big Fan; I thought it was very funny! I'm fourteen and I've completed all games in the Ace Attorney series. I've enjoyed every one very much, and I got all my friends hooked on this franchise. One of my friends found this 'manga' at Borders one day, and let me borrow it. And I for one, found it very amusing!
The book doesn't have a storyline, but is a kind of collage of mini stories all put in one. The many different art styles are fun, and it was nice to read all the artist notes at the end. They all were Ace Attorney fans who gladly contributed to this book.
Some of the stories in this book are serious, but others were VERY funny. Especially when Maya finds a cat. I'm not going to spoil, but that was just one of the stories I thoroughly enjoyed.
Anyway, all in all, I thought this was great, coming from a huge fan. You should be able to just find this at a local book store in the manga section, like my friend did.
This is not the official manga, but still good. The title and the text on the back are very misleading, because it's not the official manga that was released in Japan: It's a collection of doujins (fan comics). This means that the quality isn't always the same, some chapters are great, but a few of them are quite bad.
I still recommend it to anyone who is a fan of PW.
We are being cheated Sadly this is not the official manga that any fan would hope for. These are artist's interpretations of the characters that often feel fake and do not tie in with the "lore" of the series. There is no finger pointing court room action, no clever puzzles that require creative thinking, all that remains, by my opinion, is lame fan-fiction.
The art is nothing to smile at either. Much of the manga does not stay true to the art style depicted in the video games. In fact I experienced a very stomach churning moment during one of the stories that made everyone (including Gumshoe) look like children.
It's impossible to enjoy this when the official manga fills all these gaps, but is just waiting to be localized. Until then we are left with this nonsense that I'm likely to burn out of spite.
