|
By: Bryan Lee O'Malley By: Bryan Lee O'Malley Publisher: Oni Press August 18, 2004
O'Malley provides the reader with a well diverse environment with interesting characters. The art is simplistic, but adds a lot to the overall story with its quirkiness. A great read for any comic book fan or fan of a well written story with fun characters. ... more

By: Bryan Lee O'Malley By: Bryan Lee O'Malley Publisher: Oni Press June 15, 2005
The Scott Pilgrim series of books is the type that you will find yourself reading over and over for years to come, lending out individual volumes to friends all the while.
This book, the second in the series, is where the author really finds his voice and lets the characters grow. We get some back story on the past relationship of Scott Pilgrim and Kim Pine as well as an early glimpse... more

|
By: Bryan Lee O'Malley By: Bryan Lee O'Malley Publisher: Oni Press May 24, 2006
How to describe Scott Pilgrim and his strange little world? It's funny, to be sure. It's seemingly normal, to a degree. When we meet new characters, we often get their level rating (Scott is, of course, "awesome"). Everything about the series is so Generation Now--Scott is straight but he has a gay roommate; they share a small studio apartment and sleep in the same bed, platonically; Scott plays in... more

| 6. Queen & Country: The Definitive Edition, Vol. 2 |
|
By: Greg Rucka Publisher: Oni Press May 07, 2008
I absolutely love this format. It's portable, and it's packed with stories. For a "Definitive" edition I would have liked some more behind the scenes work, concept art and the like, but it's good enough. The story is gripping as always. My only complaint is the art. While I like seeing the different artistic representations, and the art does always click, it's sometimes jarring to try to re acclimate... more

| 7. Lost At Sea |
|
By: Bryan Lee O'Malley By: Bryan Lee O'Malley Publisher: Oni Press July 19, 2006
I bought this book at Comic Con and read the first little bit in my hotel room. Once I saw a lot of scene taking place in a car traveling long distances, I decided to save it for the ride home, but anyway I started off by getting sidetracked!
In short, Raleigh is someone I know very closely. Her moments of social anxiety, confusion, and romantic dealings with a boy who lives far away... more

|
By: Greg Rucka Publisher: Oni Press January 02, 2008
If you like any spy, espionage with political intrigue and character development then this is the book for you, who cares if its a comic book it describes scenes in much more detail than a conventional novel would take - I'm talking specifically on those sections where the writer is trying to describe what gun is being used or what type of situation is present for the protagonist the threats present... more

| 9. Whiteout Volume 1: The Definitive Edition (Whiteout (Oni Press)) (v. 1) |
|
By: Greg Rucka, Steve Lieber Publisher: Oni Press August 01, 2007
Above average writing and drawing, but the visual impact is reduced because the publisher decided to reduce the page size by about an inch in both directions. That's a huge difference in visual clarity. Remember the comics wrapped around Bazooka bubblegum? It's like that. Why would the publisher take a superior book, brag about the digital remastering, and then shrink/sink the result? Bet they saved... more

| 10. Queen & Country: The Definitive Edition, Vol. 3 (v. 3) |
|
By: Greg Rucka Publisher: Oni Press October 22, 2008
I got into Queen and Country after reading Whiteout, also created by Greg Rucka. The first two editions set the tone for the series and you felt a connection growing with all of the characters, not just Tara Chace. But by the third volume here, you start to feel frustrated at the change in character line-ups. Perhaps this was the intention of Rucka in order to express the reality of Tara's job and... more
