Deceitfully small (I was expecting it to be in it's original size), about the size of your average manga volume (with the exception of it's depth in pages), packs a nice collection of issues though (approx. four to each volume (not including the little extra bits here and there)). It was certainly a blast from the past though (corny dialogue, terrible illustration and all), makes me sad didn't... more

| 4. Archie Comics Presents: The Love Showdown Collection (Archie Americana Series) |
|
By: Various Publisher: Archie Comics July 12, 1995
This comic is so poorly reproduced, that the text and linework is blurry. It's published on high gloss paper, which only makes the blurriness worse. Unusual for Archie TPB's, which usually have good reproductions. After the build up, this story disappointed right out of the gate. Archie Comics was trying to jump on the crossover bandwagon, Paul Castiglia admits it in his Intro. However, they obviously... more

This book was great! Its has an old-school humor and likes to break the 4th wall many times, with Sonic talking to the reader and making sarcastic comments about the comic itself. But a fair warning, if you don't like slap-stick violence and pun humor this may not be a good book for you. I personally like the kick-back innocence and funny adventures I read in this book, so I will recommended it... more

This book is an excellent collection of the original comics all in a smaller sort of slim graphic novel. If you want to have a nice collection of these in good condition, take notice of the shipping these come in. It looks like they were tossed in a roomy box with 3 other books of this collection with 2 of those "bags of air" used for shipping. One of them ended up underneath the cardboard box's flap!... more

There are many who would argue that "Archie"comics were at their glory years in the 1950s... Certainly the smooth-lined, stylized artwork (from Dan DeCarlo and others) that so many fans adore found its formal peak in the second half of the decade. This book zips past the early years of the decade, pausing for only a sprinkling of stories from 1950-52 (a period that had a more blocky style, and blunter... more
