| 1. Whiteout Volume 1: The Definitive Edition (Whiteout (Oni Press)) (v. 1) |
| By: Greg Rucka, Steve Lieber Publisher: Oni Press August 01, 2007
Above average writing and drawing, but the visual impact is reduced because the publisher decided to reduce the page size by about an inch in both directions. That's a huge difference in visual clarity. Remember the comics wrapped around Bazooka bubblegum? It's like that. Why would the publisher take a superior book, brag about the digital remastering, and then shrink/sink the result? Bet they saved... more

| | 2. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating a Graphic Novel, 2nd Edition |
| By: Nat Gertler, Steve Lieber Publisher: Alpha November 03, 2009
Before I continue I'm rather shocked that people find the authors egotistical. So much so I did a double take and made sure the book I read and the book reviewed have the same ISBNs.
But let me reassure you that unless you are super sensitive and able to find insult in everything but the most sugared and sweet of writings, that you will find that Gertler and Lieber are simply people like... more

| | 3. Civil War: Front Line, Book 2 (Bk. 2) |
| By: Paul Jenkins, Ramon Bachs, Steve Lieber Publisher: Marvel Comics June 06, 2007
Art was great and the story well written. It's been awhile since I've read or collected comic books. But it wasn't one of those couldn't put it down stories. Not sure why. Maybe because my favorite times in comic books was collecting them in the 80's and I loved those stories. Or maybe because I haven't seen how the characters had changed. ... more

| | 4. Whiteout Voume 2: Melt - The Definitive Edition (Whiteout (Oni Press)) (v. 2) |
| By: Greg Rucka, Steve Lieber Publisher: Oni Press August 15, 2007
"Whiteout" and its sequel "Whiteout: Melt" stand out as classics of the independent comics scene from the late 1990s. The original mini-series was Greg Rucka's breakout hit, leading to his great runs on "Batman: No Man's Land," "Gotham Central," and other notable DC comics.
The most notable change for this "Definitive Edition" is the new 6 x 9 inches digest size; the original series was... more

| | 5. Indiana Jones Omnibus: The Further Adventures Volume 2 |
| By: David Michelinie, Herb Trimpe, Larry Lieber, Others, Jackson Guice, Steve Ditko By: David Michelinie, Herb Trimpe, Others Publisher: Dark Horse November 18, 2009
The comparisons between the old Marvel adventures of Indy and the Dark Horse adventures are inevitable--especially since Dark Horse is putting out the old Marvel stories in these omnibus editions. (For which I am very grateful, Dark Horse!)
Comparing the "new" adventures side-by-side with the old ones in these editions, I cannot declare an absolute winner. I think the Dark Horse... more

| By: Michael Chabon, Glen David Gold, Kevin McCarthy, Howard Chaykin, Bill Sienkiewicz, Steve Lieber, Gene Colan, Eric Wight Publisher: Dark Horse May 19, 2004
What fun to have real comic artists take a stab at creating the comics imagined in "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay". It's definitely light reading, but I enjoyed the artistry and creativity... more

| | 7. Batman: Gotham Central: Dead Robin (Batman): Gotham Central: Dead Robin (Batman) |
| By: Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka, Kano, Stefano Gaudiano, Steve Lieber Publisher: Titan Books Ltd September 28, 2007
Take any cop show and try and find an episode that was to bland to be aired on TV so they put it in as an extra in a box set and labeled it "never before seen episode" and you have Gotham Central. I've been reading graphic novels for 30 years and I received this book as a gift. I thought the concept was a great idea and I couldn't wait to open it up. I was incredibly disappointed. I kept reading, hoping... more

| | 8. Road to Perdition: On the Road v. 2 |
| By: Max Allan Collins, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Steve Lieber, Josef Rubinstein Publisher: Titan Books Ltd May 23, 2005
From the outset I have to say that it was my mistake in ordering this item from 'amazon.com.'. I thought it was an actual novel from the great movie "The Road from Perdition" I was to receive, which I truly believe to be one of the great movies of recent years. It was in fact, to my dismay, what they call a 'graphic novel'- in other words, a comic for the story. I have no doubt, that within... more

| | 10. Two Fisted Science: Stories About Scientists |
| By: Jim Ottaviani Publisher: G.T. Labs June 01, 2009
I'm not sure if it is entirely fair for me to give a review of this book, since I was one of the illustrators who worked on it BUT my contribution is quite small and I can at least give you an honest assessment of the rest of the project. I have rarely been prouder to be a part of a graphic novel project. I have read all of Ottaviani's GN's about the lives of scientists (including the ones I did not... more
