| 1. Treasure Island 2 |
| From: Spotlight Publisher: Spotlight 2009-01
There are few novels that have had as much influence in popular culture as "Treasure Island." Pirates with talking parrots, treasure maps, mutiny, deceit, this novel has it all. In spite of this, a great many individuals pass on reading the book because they think it is simply a childrens story. If you are leaning toward this bias, you should know that this claim is not true; the novel is filled with... more

| | 2. The X-Men Omnibus, Vol. 1 |
| By: Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Jack Kirby, Jay Gavin, Werner Roth, Jack Sparkling Publisher: Marvel Comics April 22, 2009
The Omnibus series is great, reprinting the full comics. I read the whole series as a kid as we had all the comics (I have X-Men #1 framed on the wall, still a really cool cover), and was a big fan of the original X-Men, (liked them much better then the new X-Men). BUT, when reading them now, they just do not hold up as well as FF, Spidey, Daredevil, Iron Man, Hulk etc... Kind of like how some cartoons... more

| | 5. The Western Humanities Volume 1 |
| By: Roy Matthews, Dewitt Platt, Thomas Noble Publisher: McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages January 25, 2010
I initially used this textbook for a high school humanities class. This book is absolutely wonderful, and I feel completely knowledgeable about the history of western civilization now. There are plenty of illustrations to give examples of the works of various artists, as well as sections that summarize the cumulative effect of an age on the entire history of art. I would highly recommend this... more

Its simple I loved this book all around. Its very intresting and does a great job of going over each important aspect of psychology. Also I really liked the little samples here and there they seem to have supported the chapters in a good way. I bought this textbook for a summer school class and decided just to keep it because I liked it so much!... more

With words by the incomparable Roy Thomas and artwork by Miguel Angel Sepulvedra, Marvel Illustrated has brought to life the full complexity of Homer's Iliad. The Marvel Illustrated version is uncompromising, ranging from Olympus' heights to the sea's depths as it follows the fortunes of the Greeks and the Trojans "far on the ringing plains of windy Troy."
Marvel gives us no dummied-down... more

| | 10. The Odyssey (Marvel Illustrated) |
| By: Roy Thomas, Alexandre Dumas Publisher: Marvel Comics August 05, 2009
A compelling adaptation of Homer's classic, I bought it for my 11yo son to introduce him to the classics. He's a big fan of the Percy Jackson series, so this is a natural progression. He enjoyed watching and reading of the heroic battles and adventures of the trickster Odysseus, and the illustrations bring out the story in a way that brings the younger set into the arena. ... more
