| 1. Showcase Presents: Enemy Ace, Vol. 1 |
| By: Robert Kanigher Publisher: DC Comics February 13, 2008
During the 1960s, as I was getting into serious comic book reading and collecting, my interests were mostly centered on following the super hero offerings from Marvel and DC. This period had a diverse mix of other genres such as romance, mystery/fantasy, funny animal, and war comics. While I enjoyed contemporary TV programs like Combat and the Gallant Men, war comics didn't attract me. The "War Comic... more

| | 3. Showcase Presents: Jonah Hex, Vol. 1 |
| By: John Albano, Arnold Drake, Michael L. Fleisher, Robert Kanigher, Gil Kane, Denny O'Neil Publisher: DC Comics November 02, 2005
This book collects many early Jonah Hex stories, focusing on the aforementioned scarred bounty hunter's treks through the anarchic post-Civil War west. The art and writing work together flawlessly to create an organic, evocative setting of a desolate, lawless violent world, complete with terroristic native americans, (no one would agree that political correctness was a strong point in these books)... more

| | 4. Showcase Presents: Unknown Soldier, Vol. 1 |
| By: Joe Kubert, Bob Haney, Frank Robbins, Robert Kanigher, David Michelinie, Archie Goodwin Publisher: DC Comics November 15, 2006
I remember these from when I was a kid in school. Although if you read the entire collection it can be confusing as the Unknown Soldier seems to have been in a couple different places at the same time (like around the Battle of the Bulge or Normandy) but the artwork is superb and many of the storylines are well-written. A good book! ... more

| | 6. Showcase Presents: Haunted Tank, Vol. 2 |
| By: Robert Kanigher Publisher: DC Comics June 17, 2008
The stories make little sense. Almost every German tank is a Tiger. The undergunned title character, as it were, easily blows most of them up. The Ghost is never involved in stories other than to dispense cryptic, fortune-cookie expressions at the first of each story. And one less star for vol. 2 because there's a lot less art by Joe Kubert. But this is tanks shoot at other tanks. If you're 12 years... more

| | 8. Showcase Presents: The Flash, Vol. 1 |
| By: Robert Kanigher Publisher: DC Comics May 02, 2007
I realized this collection of Flash stories are the earliest, and which means it was first intended for kids, instead of adults. This is my feeling, since there are some Kid Flash tales who is exactly like Flash except is a kid. And the bad guys always seem to rob banks and jewelry stores. The plots are simple. But being a Flash fan, I wasn't concern of the storytelling as much as seeing how the first... more

| | 9. The Flash Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) |
| By: Robert Kanigher, John Broome Publisher: DC Comics May 04, 1998
If you are a Silver Age comics fan this one's for you! I caught on to The Flash when I was maybe in junior high school and about seven or eight years into the original Carmine Infantino, John Broome, Robert Kanigher, Frank Giacola, Joe Giella, Joe Kubert et al. run. The Flash was updated from the older Golden Age Flash - the guy with the blue pants, red shirt, and sporting a helmet that looked... more
