| 1. Invaders Classic, Vol. 1 (Marvel Comics, Avengers) (v. 1) |
| By: Roy Thomas, Frank Robbins, Rich Buckler, Dick Ayers, Don Heck Publisher: Marvel Comics August 01, 2007
the invaders was the best comic ever made. this was my favorite comic book while growing up. and frank robbins was perfect for the book. he made everyone look like "nazi concentration camp survivors" including the superheros. some did't like his art back then because he refused to make everyone "pretty" and "juiced up" on steroids. but he caught the mood/ spirit of wwii. frank robbins was the invaders... more

By the early 70s, Marvel Comics seemed to be losing a little of its creative spark. Ditko and Kirby were gone, and Stan had his eye on movies and television. But then a new breed of writers and artists started to filter in. Guys like Starlin, Steranko, Adams, Simonson and many others started to re-invigorate the company. One of these writers was the late Steve Gerber who some might know for his... more

| | 4. Essential Marvel Horror Volume 2 TPB (v. 2) |
| By: Steve Gerber, Tony Isabella, Val Mayerik, Len Wein, John Warner, Doug Moench, Mike Friedrich, Roy Thomas, Bill Mantlo, Marv Wolfman, Scott Edelman, Rich Buckler, Tom Sutton, Gene Colan, Jim Mooney, Tony DeZuniga, Billy Graham, Pablo Marcos, Sonny Trinidad By: Val Mayerik Publisher: Marvel Comics November 26, 2008
Essential Horror vol. 2 was a highly anticipated volume of comics for me due mostly to the fact that I was familiar with just about all the characters featured within its pages but had never actually read any of their stories. I found The Living Mummy and Brother Voodoo series to be especially enjoyable. The Mummy's origin is particularly good. The rest of the collection is so-so but it's fun to read... more

| | 6. Fantastic Four Visionaries, Vol. 1 (v. 1) |
| By: Walter Simonson Publisher: Marvel Comics May 30, 2007
This long overdue collection puts together FF #334-341 written and drawn by Walt Simonson. Although Simonson's art isn't featured until issue #337, he does a nice job of integrating the "Acts of Vengeance" storyline into the FF universe. From there, it's a cosmic adventure into the future where the FF must stop Galactus, who has gone above and beyond past showings to actually devouring the universe!... more

| | 7. How to Draw Dynamic Comic Books |
| By: Rich Buckler Publisher: Vanguard July 10, 2007
I've read and studied many books on this subject. It is hard to find good technical information on it. Some of the best books do have some extensive information but take some effort to understand their deeper meaning. This book is advanced and one of the best books I've picked up. If you are looking for a useless and childish book assuming there is one distinct way to draw a story with plenty of... more

| By: Roy Thomas, Harlan Ellison, Chris Claremont, Steve Englehart, Steve Gerber, Barry Windsor-Smith, Rich Buckler, John Buscema, George Tuska, Jim Starlin Publisher: Marvel Comics February 08, 2006
While the work done by Harlan Ellison - Five Dooms to Save Tomorrow - may make this volume intriguing, the exploration of the 1972-1974 period is quite interesting.
The collection includes Avengers #98-#119, Daredevil #99 and Defenders #8-11, with a lineup that includes Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, the Scarlet Witch, Thor and the Vision and a number of writers tackling the battles... more
