| 1. Asterix the Gaul (Children's choice) |
|
By: Goscinny, Uderzo, Rene Goscinny Publisher: Listen for Pleasure 1993
This is where it all began, the first episode as it were (though technically Goscinny and Uderzo had already collaborated on the short-lived "Oum Pah Pah" series). I have been a fan of comics for more than 40 years now and the Asterix books have been among my favorites for about 35. In general they embody a combination of winning characters, intelligence, fun, and virtuosic artwork that is almost... more

| 2. Asterix & Obelix's Birthday: The Golden Book |
|
By: Rene Goscinny, Albert Uderzo Publisher: Orion January 05, 2010
This is definitely not a book meant for starter Asterix fans - this is more like a finale book! Once you read this book, you realize that this is precisely that - an adieu by Uderzo. It is highly improbable that he will write another Asterix book again, and so we get this Birthday book, which is basically a collage featuring characters from all the other books making an appearance in this book... more

| 4. Asterix the Legionary (Classic Asterix Hardbacks) |
|
By: Rene de Goscinny and M. Uderzo Publisher: Hodder Children's Books 1995
The sometimes hysterical adventures of Asterix, Obelix and the entire village are always entertaining. My kids crack themselves up, and even I can't help but chuckle at some of the antics. Great fun reading... more

| 5. Asterix in Belgium |
|
By: Rene Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, Rene de Goscinny Publisher: French & European Pubns October 01, 1992
My sons (13 & 11) love these books. Although I used to be against "graphic novels", I'm fine with these. They have learned so much history, geography, and even a little Latin from reading Asterix. We own about 20 of them, and they want them all.
My 11 year old insists on calling "France" "Gaul". ... more

By: Rene Goscinny, Albert Uderzo Publisher: Orion October 07, 2008
Asterix Omnibus 10: Includes Asterix and the Magic Carpet #28, Asterix and the Secret Weapon #29, Asterix and Obelix All at Sea #30 (v. 10), is a fun look at the ancient world. The translation from French into English keeps the humor in tact. I am very glad that I could purchase this in the USA... more

| 7. How Obelix Fell Into the Magic Potion: When He Was a Little Boy (Asterix) |
|
By: Rene Goscinny, Albert Uderzo Publisher: Orion October 06, 2009
Big fan. Kids all excited to hear the story. It was a weak little effort trying to make more money selling another book. Story unimaginative and it was not a real effort. For paying off such a big component of the main books (and answering my daughter's desire) I bought it. A real waste. They read every other one 20-30 times -they have yet to open this a second time... more

| 8. Asterix and the Golden Sickle |
|
By: Rene Goscinny 2008-03
I remember reading this book with my stepson, then age nine, and thoroughly enjoying the amusing names and wily ways of the Gauls as they overcame the Romans. It was a joy to once again be able to read these Asterix books with my grandson, now age nine. I would recommend these comic books to children of nine to ninety who would also enjoy amusing situations in which the little guys overcome the big... more

| 9. Asterix The Mansions of the Gods |
|
By: Rene Goscinny Publisher: Orion April 28, 2005
I ordered this as a gift for my grandson, but after reading it and some additional thought, returned it. The text and many of the images are witty and multilayered, but the depiction of the African character seemed rooted in some pretty outdated stereotypes. I don't consider myself overly politically correct, but while the literary content of this book is still strong, culturally we've moved far... more

| 10. Asterix and the Great Crossing |
|
By: Rene Goscinny, Uderzo Publisher: French & European Pubns June 02, 1979
Another clever, funny and creative classic from R. Goscinny. Every one of the original series (with Goscinny & Uderzo) is a classic and a must read. Some of the references are bit deep and this is not really a book for young kids (although most will enjoy some of the slapstick humor) but the real "juice" is in the puns in the language which are very clever. The artwork too is beautiful, although... more
