| 1. Classic G.I. Joe Volume 7 (G. I. Joe (Graphic Novels)) |
| By: Larry Hama, Marshall Rogers, Danny Bunlanadi, William Johnson, Ron Wagner, Russ Heath, Andy Mushynsky Publisher: IDW Publishing February 24, 2010
Do not let the four stars fool you. In this case, four stars means, "Sure is nice to have these back issues reprinted again!" Time has a way of making the past seem "better" or "different". This is certainly the case in this collection of the later issues of the original Marvel series. There is no argument that Cobra Commander getting his due as Fred VII violently assumes his identity makes for... more

| | 4. Essential Silver Surfer, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 2) |
| By: Stan Lee, John Byrne, Steve Englehart, Marshall Rogers, Joe Staton, Ron Lim By: John Byrne Publisher: Marvel Comics July 04, 2007
I'm sure I would be branded a heathen by the comic community by saying this, but this second volume is WAY more fun to read than the first. I don't really want to see Silver Surfer, master of space, trapped on earth. This volume features him out in space, kickin' butt. The stories are more modern (venturing into the 80s!) and are def more relatable than the whining in the first volume. Enjoy... more

| | 5. X-Men: Excalibur Classic, Vol. 2 - Two-Edged Sword |
| By: Chris Claremont, Alan Davis, Ron Lim, Marshall Rogers, Art Adams Publisher: Marvel Comics August 16, 2006
This volume collects Excalibur (v.1) # 6-11 and Mojo Mayhem. All are written by Chris Claremont, and the artwork is by pencillers Alan Davis, Arthur Adams, Ron Lim, and Marshall Rogers, and inkers Paul Neary, Josef Rubinstein, Terry Austin, and Bob Wiacek.
The first couple issues crossover into the X-Men Inferno event, and while Excalibur isn't key to understanding Inferno, reading... more

| | 6. Batman: Dark Detective |
| By: Steve Englehart Publisher: DC Comics April 12, 2006
In the late 1970s, Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers (and Terri Austin) collaborated on an outstanding, and iconic, Batman story. Why they felt they needed to try and recapture the magic over two decades later is beyond me. Quite simply, they failed.
Suffice it to say that Rogers' run on "Detective Comics" stands as one of the most beautiful examples of comic book art of its time... more

| | 7. Batman: Strange Apparitions |
| By: Steve Englehart, Len Wein, Marshall Rogers Publisher: DC Comics December 01, 1999
This was for me the quintessential Batman comics experience. I had forgotten until I read this book how much I enjoy the editorial additions to the prose, i.e. "Turkeys? No, no turkeys in this issue--but there's another sort of jailbird waiting in the wings." Also, the cartoony thought bubbles that aren't used in comics anymore to depict what's on a characters mind, i.e. "I wish Silver would answer... more

| | 8. Batman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Vol. 2 |
| By: Brian Michael Bendis, Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Roy Thomas Publisher: DC Comics February 14, 2007
For my money, DC's revamping of the "Greatest Stories" line has still fallen well off the mark set by the 1980s/90s editions. That said, this volume actually stands up fairly well. While I certainly enjoyed some more than others, I won't dwell on the merits of the stories chosen for inclusion versus other candidates (with one exception which I'll get to later). I think that the nature of this kind... more

| | 9. Marvel Westerns HC (Marvel Comics) |
| By: Dan Slott, Jeff Parker, Karl Kesel, Fred Van Lente, Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jim McCann, Steve Englehart, Joe R. Lansdale, Eduardo Barreto, Tomm Coker, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Homs, Federica Manfredi, Dave Willaims, Marshall Rogers, Raffa Garres By: Jimmy Palmiotti Publisher: Marvel Comics December 13, 2006
This is simply a great collection. Marvel, in an attempt to bring the Wild West genre back to comics, has put everything they can into this book. If you're even slightly interested in two-gun heroes, wild fillies of the fighting persuasion, and just good, old-fashioned Texan yarns, this book is for you. The action here is all-out but also thoughtful. WARNING: SPOILERS HEREAFTER. Steve Englehart's... more
