| 1. Turok: Son of Stone Archives Volume 1 (v. 1) |
|
By: Alberto Giolitti Publisher: Dark Horse April 08, 2009
I never read any Turok issues before and since Dark Horse does a wonderful job with other archival books that I have from them (eg, Tarzan), I decided to give Turok a chance and boy was I pleasently surprised. The stories are really interesting and make me want to want read the next issue reprinted. This is great. All the original covers are beautifully reprinted, it seems to me originally painted... more

| 2. Kirby: King of Comics |
|
By: Mark Evanier Publisher: Abrams February 22, 2008
Because Mark Evanier had started out as an assistant to Jack Kirby in the Seventies and became a life-long friend of the Kirby family from that time on, I approached this book with suspicion. Was this going to be another "Kirby-could-do-no-wrong" tribute, glossing over anything that showed him as multi-faceted as any human being, good and bad? Thankfully, no. It isn't that Evanier paints a warts-'n... more

| 3. Indiana Jones Adventures Volume 2 |
|
By: Mark Evanier, Ethen Beavers Publisher: Dark Horse October 28, 2009
I was expecting a book (with words) -- not a glorified comic book. Very disappointing! Thought, perhaps, I had not read the description carefully and went back to the site to check. Nope! Nowhere did the description mention that very major detail. Book might be okay for a beginning reader -- but, then, I don't think they'd even know who Indiana Jones is. This was a gift for a 13-year-old... more

| 4. Did You Grow Up With Me, Too? - The Autobiography of June Foray |
|
By: June Foray Publisher: BearManor Media July 04, 2009
This was such a fun book to read! Not only does Ms. Foray tell us her life story, but she does it with humor and love. Those are two things that this poor ol' world needs a lot more of. We learn of her climb to the top, the many interesting people she's worked with (names we might not recognize, but voices that are so very familiar), and what it's like to be a voice actor. Until reading this book... more

| 5. Mad Art : A Visual Celebration of the Art of Mad Magazine and the Idiots Who Create It |
|
By: Mark Evanier Publisher: Watson-Guptill November 01, 2002
The title of "MAD Art" is a nice, simple title, achieving a sense of balance by consisting of a pair of three letter words, but it is a bit off target. Even when you through in the subtitle--"A Visual Celebration of the Art of 'MAD' Magazine and the Idiots Who Create It"--we are still off the beam a bit, because what Mark Evanier has compiled here is a tribute to the specific artists who made "MAD"... more

| 6. Groo: Houndbook |
|
By: Sergio Aragones, Mark Evanier Publisher: Dark Horse June 09, 1999
For a long time I avoided this title, despite the fact that I enjoyed most of writer Mark Evanier's other books (with the exception of kiddie books like "Huckleberry Hound" and "Heathcliff"). But one month I wasn't going to be able to make in to my local comic book shop and I asked him to pull my usual books. Instead, he pulled one of every title, including Groo.
I read that issue and... more

| 7. DNAgents Industrial Strength Edition |
|
By: Mark Evanier, Will Meugniot Publisher: Image Comics October 29, 2008
Though not as famous, the DNAgents deserve to be ranked among Clarmont's X-Men and Wolfman's Teen Titans as one of the great superhero books of the 80s. Mark Evanier's writing drips with soap opera and intrigues, Will Meugniot's art is sexy but realistic.
At first glance you'll see a pretty typical team of 5, we have the hotheaded guy, the big guy with a heart of gold, the short insecure... more

| 8. Groo: Hell on Earth |
|
By: Mark Evanier, Sergio Aragones Publisher: Dark Horse March 04, 2009
I didnt find it to be too political, nor did I find it any less funny than previous Groo titles. Ive never found Groo to be overly laugh out loud funny and this volume doent change that. Im still waiting for "the Groo Playground" and whatever happened to "The Groo Treasury Volume 1"... more

| 9. Panel Two: More Comic Book Scripts By Top Writers |
|
By: Nat Gertler, Peter David, Scott McCloud, Judd Winick, Bill Mumy, Mark Evanier, Miguel Ferrer Publisher: About Comics April 01, 2003
People hoping to gain an understanding of how to write comic books really couldn't find a better source than "Panel One," the previous volume edited by Nat Gertler collecting comic book scripts and roughs by various creators. "Panel Two" is more of the same, but not as polished. There are more of the "thumbnail" versions of scripts, and some that are so detailed it's almost like reading the comic itself... more
