| 2. JLA/Avengers |
|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: DC Comics November 18, 2008
After the proposed project was delayed way back in the 1980's, the two major comicbook companies (DC & MARVEL) finally got their **** together 20+ years later, and the JLA/AVENGERS Cross-Over finally got off the ground. It was worth the wait because [they] made it into a "4-Issue Event" (in its initial release). Now it is published into trade paperback combining all four issues from the talents... more

| 3. Marvels |
|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: Boxtree Ltd January 10, 1995
Wizard gave this bad boy spot #2 on their best graphic novels of all time. I highly disagree, Marvels is better than DC: The New Frontier by a long shot. This novel is the most realistic superhero comic ever created. What would all of us puny humans have to say about all these superhero's destroying our property in fist fights? Regular Joe's don't usually have a huge appearance in superhero books... more

| 4. Astro City Vol. 2: Confession |
|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: Wildstorm June 23, 1999
Of the three volumes released so far, Confessions is probably the best in the Astrocity series. It tells about the coming of age of a young boy with the superhero name Altar-boy, as a sidekick to an ageing superhero the Confessor. The parallels especially to the famous flying rodent and sparrow sidekick is terribly overwhelming.
While Busiek's writing is intelligent, I can't believe... more

| 5. Life in the Big City (Astro City, Vol. 1) |
|
By: Kurt Busiek, Brent E. Anderson, Alex Ross Publisher: Wildstorm June 23, 1999
If you've read or seen Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, you'll have some idea of how this series works.
Instead of focusing on the titanic battles through space and time that the superheros fight, Astro City focuses on the "minor characters" of the universe. The average men and women who make up the population of the world, and how they can affect the superheros.
But... more

| 7. Trinity Vol. 3 |
|
By: Kurt Busiek, Fabian Nicieza Publisher: DC Comics October 20, 2009
As you may know, comic book paperbacks are reprints of comic book, and some people bought the individual comic books and would review that instead. But, it seems others have caught on to my jabs, and now the other reviews are Amazon purchases. Still, I read this for the first time in this collection and here's my review.
Volume 3 continues the battle of the Dark Arcana as the missing... more

| 8. Conan Vol. 3: The Tower of the Elephant and Other Stories |
|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: Dark Horse June 28, 2006
In my opinion, this one actually kicks it up a notch from the relatively disappointing The God in the Bowl. For most of volume three, the writing and artwork both are back up to the expected awesomeness that is the reason I read this series. Each of the original stories here is excellent, fitting in nicely with the Conan universe and staying true to the feel of what Conan tales are meant to be. ... more

"Astro City: The Dark Age Book One" Written by Kurt Busiek Illustrated by Bret Anderson (DC Comics, 2009) ----------------------------------------------- I was a Marvel kid, but a friend of mine who's more of a DC fan turned me on to Kurt Busiek's "Astro City" series a while ago, and I have been continually impressed ever since.

| 10. Conan Volume 1: The Frost Giant's Daughter And Other Stories (Conan (Graphic Novels)) |
|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: Dark Horse April 13, 2005
I try to avoid cliché wording such as "must have". Still, this one is probably one of the most important graphical pieces on the topic of R. E. Howard's Conan I lay my hands and eyes on. Actually, all volumes drawn by Cary Nord deserve the status much to his credit (and R E Howard, of course, in the first place) - to the art which speaks for itself; Strong and distinctive as those done by Roy Thomas... more
