| 1. Wolverine Omnibus, Vol. 1 |
| By: Chris Claremont, Barry Windsor-Smith, Len Wein, Peter David, Mary Jo Duffy, James C. Owlsley, Carl Potts Publisher: Marvel Comics April 01, 2009
I have to say this was one fun book to read, i always loved the character but never got a chance to read these stories, and see what made the so great. This is exactly the stories that show, wolverine is not just a berserker. I loved almost all the stories here, although i have to admit that the hulk stories were my least favorite, at least the first ones where wolverine made his first appearance... more

| | 2. The Incredible Hulk Omnibus, Vol. 1 (v. 1) |
| By: Stan Lee, Gary Friedrich, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Marie Severin, Gil Kane, Bill Everett, John Buscema, John Romita, Dick Ayers, Mike Esposito, Bob Powell Publisher: Marvel Comics June 25, 2008
I really enjoy the old archive comics, the dc comics archives, the new Jack Kirby collections, etc. I have dozens of them, so I thought that this book would be a no brainer; unfortunately it's only ok. The first 100 pages are great, (Kirby, Ditko) but I kind of wish I could have just purchased that section alone. There is some pretty bad art in here. I bought the book at close to 40% off and I'd... more

| | 3. Howard The Duck Omnibus |
| By: Steve Gerber Publisher: Marvel Comics August 20, 2008
Pros: These near-complete collected comic books have never gotten old to me. Steve Gerber was a genius, and backed up by the incredibly beautiful and complex artwork by Gene Colan, Frank Brunner and Val Mayerik, Howard the Duck (the comic) has never looked better than in this Omnibus collection. It's a shame Steve didn't live to see it's release. The paper and color look fantastic. And all of the color... more

| | 4. X-Men: Mutant Massacre |
| By: Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson, Walter Simonson Publisher: Marvel Comics January 06, 2010
First, the quality of the product. Very nice oversized binding. Great dustjacket with great cover by Romita Jr and back by Alan Davis. Has some great shelf appeal, although I'm not sure why they went with military style stencils for the title. I am old enough that I collected the individual issues that make up this collection that tells the story of the Mutant Massacre. I remember the build... more

| | 5. How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way |
| By: Stan Lee, John Buscema Publisher: Fireside September 14, 1984
Probably one of the best books on comics for the beginner. Great simple overview, and awesome dynamic art examples, and unlike many of the "How to draw comics" books out there, it's done by comic book pros! Some other great books to try after, also by comic pros...

The stories in this volume are really strong, and the art is fresh and clear. (The art found in this book is also similar to the art in Essential X Men vol 3) After dealing with boring and lackluster eras like the when Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Hawkeye were the only members and the very early years of the team we finally get to my favorite age of The Avengers.
However... more
