| 1. The Punisher, The: Welcome Back Frank |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Steve Dillon Publisher: Panini (UK) Ltd. October 10, 2001
First off, this book is not for kids or adults with "virgin ears." It is consistently gritty and graphic. At times even salacious. It is a composition of multiple books, so the artwork for some of the issues is perfect, while for other issues it misses the mark. Still, it is outstandingly well written across all issues. The story and dialogue is the best I've ever seen in a Marvel comic. The Punisher... more

Following on from Vol 1 in which Karen Page was killed off, DD encounters a mysterious young lady Echo who is out to kill him because she is told by the Kingpin that DD had killed her father. In the course of their civilian guise, DD becomes infatuated with her and finally manages to convince her that he is not the killer. Echo then goes off to kill the Kingpin.
Perhaps it is the brevity... more

| 4. Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 9: Ultimate Six |
|
By: Brian Michael Bendis, Trevor Hairsine, Mark Bagley, Joe Quesada Publisher: Marvel Comics June 01, 2004
The Ultimate Six is somewhat of a sideplot, even though it is a hugely epic story. As one reviewer stated before, it doesn't follow the traditional ultimate spider-man storytelling that we're all accustomed to, but it still held me by the eyes and wouldn't let me go till I finished.
Whew I had to take a step back after reading this. We've got the Avengers and the Ultimate Six...or Five...you'll... more

| 5. Spider-Man: One More Day |
|
By: J. Michael Straczynski Publisher: Marvel Comics September 10, 2008
I think what really bothers me about the Brand New Day "shift" is that I understand the business reason for doing this. Peter's life had developed and matured to a point where younger fans wouldn't "get" it. But, as an admittedly middle-aged person who grew up with the character, it hurt to lose someone with whom I'd related to for so long. We kind of grew up together and had reached a number of... more

| 7. NYX: Wannabe (collects NYX #1-7) |
|
By: Joe Quesada, Josh Middleton, Robert Teranishi Publisher: Marvel Comics May 24, 2006
This has a good, engaging story and brilliant artwork. Or, well, for at least half the story. Middleton drew the first few sections, and the interior looks exactly like the cover art - beautiful style and color work. Then, Middleton left, and the series was picked up by Robert Teranishi, who obviously had some difficulty transitioning from his "comic book artist" coloring style to Middleton's more... more

| 10. X-Men: Fatal Attractions |
|
By: Fabian Nicieza, Scott Lobdell Publisher: Marvel Entertainment Group January 01, 1995
As fate would have it, the day after my order for the graphic novel was processed and shipped, a friend of mine found this entire storyline in near mint single issues for $6 :/ But now I have a copy to read and a copy to keep mint, so it's no so bad.
I love this crossover, but the main issue I find with the TPB form is that the story flow from page to page is thrown off in some instances... more
