| 1. The Punisher, The: Welcome Back Frank |
| By: Garth Ennis, Steve Dillon Publisher: Panini (UK) Ltd. October 10, 2001
First off, this book is not for kids or adults with "virgin ears." It is consistently gritty and graphic. At times even salacious. It is a composition of multiple books, so the artwork for some of the issues is perfect, while for other issues it misses the mark. Still, it is outstandingly well written across all issues. The story and dialogue is the best I've ever seen in a Marvel comic. The Punisher... more

| | 2. Torpedo Volume 1 |
| By: Enrique Sanchez Abuli, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jordi Bernet, Alex Toth Publisher: IDW Publishing September 15, 2009
It's pretty hard to go wrong with a book that features art by Alex Toth and Jordi Bernet. And the art is absolutely fantastic. I liked the stories in general, but it wasn't Earth-shatteringly good. That's okay, I'm on board for the next volume, if for no other reason than to show thanks for getting more of Bernet's work in print in America. But also, because the art is fantastic... more

| | 4. Power Girl (Jsa) |
| By: Geoff Johns April 18, 2008
I think some of the unjustified and horrible reviews of this book are based on misunderstandings of what it is. I believe they expected a self-contained story, but what this actually is, is an anthology of comics from a variety of sources that shows the rather complex and often internally inconsistent and misguided history of Power Girl. As the comics here show, she started off as Superman's cousin... more

| | 5. Secret Six: Six Degrees of Devastation |
| By: Gail Simone Publisher: DC Comics March 28, 2007
I have been picking up the monthly 'Secret Six' books and wanted to see where it all began so I grabbed this trade. I liked it...but I can see Gail's writing is more powerful in the newer books. Her character dynamics are amazing...I could care less about the action as long as the team is talking to each other!
Get this book just to see how 'mad' the Mad Hatter really is. Crazy!... more

Following on from Vol 1 in which Karen Page was killed off, DD encounters a mysterious young lady Echo who is out to kill him because she is told by the Kingpin that DD had killed her father. In the course of their civilian guise, DD becomes infatuated with her and finally manages to convince her that he is not the killer. Echo then goes off to kill the Kingpin.
Perhaps it is the brevity... more

| | 7. Terra |
| By: Jimmy Palmiotti, JUSTIN GREY Publisher: DC Comics December 15, 2009
I just finished reading this comic novel and I LOVED it! In an age where comics are mostly big, dark, scary events, (a reflection of the real world), its refreshing to read a book that is fun, colorful and humorous. Amanda Conner is an amazing artist, able to keep the art both simple and complex at the same time. Her drawings of people are full of charm, character, expression and body language... more

| | 8. Jonah Hex: Guns of Vengeance |
| By: Jimmy; Gray, Justin Palmiotti Publisher: DC Comics 2007
Before buying into the Jonah Hex series with this first volume I was told time and time again that this is a book I should be reading from people whos opinions I genuinly trust. I must say I was very disappointed. This basically reads as I would imagine old time radio western serials would sound. If this is a genre and style you like then you will love this yet for me it just seems disjointed meaning... more

| | 9. Superman/Supergirl: Maelstrom (Superman (Graphic Novels)) |
| By: Jimmy Palmiotti, JUSTIN GREY Publisher: DC Comics December 15, 2009
This limited series was a delightful, pretty-to-look-at break from the sweeping, universe-wide storylines that have run through the DC universe the past few years. Supergirl re-arrived in the DCU as a character in 2004 and went through quite a few rough patches before she finally got settled in and pulled into the larger "New Krypton" storyline, but before all of that, there was this fun little 5-issue... more
