| 2. Faeries (25th Anniversary Edition) |
|
From: Harry N. Abrams Publisher: Harry N. Abrams October 29, 2002
I borrowed this book from the university's library, and I enjoyed it very much. Alan Lee and Brian Froud are among my favorite artists; the illustrations are incredibly beautiful, and the history and the folklore was very interesting. Finally, a true portrayal of faeries! A lot of people complain that the book is "too dark" and "too ugly" of a portrayal on faeries. The interesting thing... more

I on the other hand disagree. I have been collecting Brian Froud artistry since The Fairies book in 1979. I have ordered a calendar each year with his art available since 1995. For a while you could only get Lady Cottingham calendars but now World of Froud has come out. I got the 2009 calendar and loved it. So if you are looking to collect pictures with Froud art, then order the 2009 calendar... more

|
By: Brian Froud Publisher: Insight Editions September 04, 2007
This book is amazing! I would say that 80% of the book is full-page pictures. You could easily cut out the pages and frame the pictures. There are beautiful faeries, dark and scary faeries, trolls, ect. They're not all females faeries either! I highly recommend this book, it's definitely worth the cost!... more

| 6. The Dreaming Place |
|
By: Charles De Lint Publisher: Atheneum 1990-11
Author, Charles De Lint says, "I was a little nervous when I started my first book written specifically for a teen audience, not being sure how to approach the actual writing. Do I make the language simpler? Do I tone down the intensity of the story?"
What he actually did was write a rather static story where the characters are very much into navel-gazing and long, dull speeches. more
