| 1. Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, Book 5) |
|
By: Stephen King Publisher: Pocket January 24, 2006
After breezing through the first four novels at a frenetic pace, this novel took over a year to finish. After the first 400 pages i couldnt read it anymore and needed to take a long break from the Dark Tower novels (marvel comics graphic novels renewed my intrest). After page 500 or so/ Callahans second tale, the book gets better. Two main problems i had, was that this book took 880 pages to... more

| 2. Cycle of the Werewolf |
|
By: Stephen King Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton Ltd October 01, 1985
Cycle of the Werewolf is a fun, quick read that can easily be finished in just a couple of hours. Each chapter is only a few pages long and covers the supposed moon cycle for one month in a year of terror. The story centers around a small New England town that is being terrorized by the savage and violent attacks of a werewolf. Each vignette centers on the werewolf's activity for the full moon of htat... more

| 3. Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein |
|
By: Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Publisher: Dark Horse November 05, 2008
I bought Bernie Wrightson's trade paperback edition when Marvel published the title in 1983. I hesitated picking up Dark Horse's reprint until I chanced upon a copy at Border's. This is a gorgeous edition that every horror fan must have on their shelf. Dark Horse pulled out all the stops to make this an event publication. Cloth bound with slick pages. This book is a true work of art and an amazing... more

| 4. The Chronicles Of Kull Volume 1: A King Comes Riding And Other Stories (Chronicles of Kull 1) |
|
By: Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Len Wein, John Severin, Marie Severin, Bernie Wrightson, Ross Andru, Wally Wood Publisher: Dark Horse Comics December 15, 2009
Kull had always been a poor cousin to Conan, even in the comics. The short run of this series testify to that lop-sided appreciation. Even Roy Thomas, who championed this series at first, gave up writing duties first to Len Wein and then Gerry Conway so as to focus on Conan and other titles. What really propels this series along is the quality artwork, which is clearly magnificent.
However... more

| 5. Swamp Thing: Dark Genesis |
|
By: Len Wein Publisher: DC Comics December 01, 2002
My Swamp Thing fandom began with seeing the movies and TV series as a teenager. I recently decided to start collecting the trade paperbacks, starting with this one. The original short story is quite reminiscent of Edgar Allen Poe's works. Gothic and somber, it's easy to see why the book it appeared in sold so well.
The remainder of the book's stories, taken from the regular Swamp Thing... more

| 6. Roots of the Swamp Thing (DC Comics Classics Library) |
|
By: Len Wein Publisher: DC Comics June 02, 2009
This is what comic books are and (sadly, today) what they used to be. Berni Wrightson's artwork is incomparable; he, more than Wein even, is the true creator of the Swamp Thing image that all classic comic book fans know and love. Swamp Thing is a great character who works splendidly on a visual level but never seems to get the treatment that he deserves. This collection comes as close as anything... more

| 7. Batman: Cult |
|
By: Bernie Wrightson, Bill Wray, Jim Starlin Publisher: Titan Books Ltd December 18, 2009
This nutso leader type certainly provided a worthy opponent for The Batman.
He sees how far you actually would have to go to actually break The Batman, whether torture, drugs, or whatever, along with some clever PR and spin.

| 8. Knowing Darkness: Artists Inspired by Stephen King |
|
By: George Beahm Publisher: Centipede Press November 01, 2009
This is simply one of the most amazing books to be produced about Stephen King's world ever! The publisher has exceeded my expectations about what this book would be. There is page after page of stunning reproductions of artwork contained within the covers. It is nice to be able to view the images without the lettering (King's name and book title) super-imposed over them. Not only do you get to... more

| 9. Freak Show |
|
By: Bruce Jones, Bernie Wrightson Publisher: Image Comics April 19, 2006
I consider this to be Wrightson's swan song... his last awesome work. The price is excellent for so many pages of amazing work, and I appreciate that they didn't mess up the artwork with color. But the printing is awful, and so much of the beauty of his line work is mashed and fuzzy. Just too bad. I'll have to dig up my old heavy metal magazines to see just how awesome it is... more
