Give Checker Book Publishing their due: they have mined the Winsor McCay motherload with great diligence. The physical dimensions of their books have often resulted in reprints that are of academic value only, but even that is better than all the gaps that have existed between infrequent and incomplete printings of "Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend" and "Little Nemo." McCay's work is not easy to reprint... more

|
By: Winsor McCay Publisher: Taschen April 01, 2000
This collection of Little Nemo comics contains every Little Nemo in Slumberland and In the Land of Wonderful Dreams strip in a nice hardcover book. While bigger than a standard comic book (about the size as one of DC's "Absolute" editions), the pages are actually smaller than original 16x20 newspaper pages. For the price, however, it's hard to beat this book.
Little Nemo follows the adventures... more

By: Winsor McCay Publisher: Dover Publications June 01, 1976
For the person asking. This is an affordable fairly large color reproduction of a story McCay told over consecutive weeks in newspapers during the turn of the century. Sometimes McCay would draw stand alone pages. Sometimes Little Nemo would dream a connected story over weeks - but of course he would always wake up at the end of exch strip. This is one of those. The book uses original collected color... more

Throughout the 20th century, newspaper comic strips have been a staple of American popular culture. Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo In Slumberland" was a color comic strip that debuted in the New York 'Hearld' on October 15, 1905 and achieved an immense popularity almost overnight. It continued to be published until December 1913, when McCay was pressed by his editor to suspend the series in order to concentrate... more

What's to say? The greatest cartoon ever is out of print and can't be seen by anyone. Thankfully his animated work is available on DVD through Amazon and it's a humbling experience. Those were the first animated cartoons and in some respects they've seldom been equalled. His first one--THE first one--is a shocker, like some amateur building the Taj Mahal on the first try. In terms of raw, fantastic... more
