Not as epic as some hype may have led me to believe, but I loved it anyway. Fun read with some classic throwback plot ideas and tons of classic Marvel characters!... more

By: Mark Millar, Peter Gross Publisher: Image Comics April 08, 2009
I first I thought this was interesting just from reading a small description on it at [...]. I decided to take a chance on it. It was only 10 bucks, why not? The story thus far has been excellent, but the story does not conclude in this book. I'm still waiting for the next part. The art on the other hand is nothing special. It gets the job done, but nothing that makes the comic really stand out... more

By: Mark Millar, J.G. Jones Publisher: Top Cow Productions/Image Comics November 28, 2007
A friend of mine who routinely passes very good comics my way recently had me read this. Apparently I had offended him in some way. After I finished it he apologized.
The story here plays out the fantasy of every teenage boy who wasn't popular in middle school. A loser suddenly gets all the power he can dream of and uses it to murder, rape, and say 4 letter words in front of his mother... more

I enjoyed this very much, but it's the little things that make instant fans. I am a huge fan of Dave Sim's Cerebus comics, and it's gratifying to see a Mark Millar tribute to the earthpig. Near the end of the book, Hulk's grandchildren are in a bar. One is called Elrod, and he has a doll just like Jaka's. ... more

| 6. The Ultimates Omnibus |
|
By: Mark Millar Publisher: Marvel Comics July 01, 2009
When I first started reading The Ultimates, I was really quite impressed. The art is really good, the writing is, for the most part, equally good.
I would've rated this as a 4 based on overall quality, however (minor spoiler alert) the bit where the NUCLEAR BOMBING of Hiroshima & Nagasaki is shrugged off by a quick casual ret-con explaining that they were infested with shape-shifting... more

| 7. Fantastic Four: World's Greatest, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Mark Millar Publisher: Marvel Comics January 28, 2009
This is what a professional comic should look like. The trend in Marvel nowadays seems to be towards photo-realistic images with big storylines. I think that generally, this works for titles like the Fantastic Four.
However, the actual plot and dialogue is a bit of a snowjob. Earth is doomed -thus Reed Richard's ex-girlfriend calls on him to get involved in the Nu-World project. There... more

| 8. Fantastic Four: The Masters of Doom |
|
By: Mark Millar Publisher: Marvel Comics October 21, 2009
What the $@*% happened? Was it deadlines? A growing lack of interest? Millar painting himself into a corner? Was it Joe Quesada? It's Joe Quesada, isn't it? Whatever it is, what started as an awesome Fantastic Four run by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch ends up fizzling. FANTASTIC FOUR: THE MASTER OF DOOM collects issues #562-569, and the thing of it is that, even in this collection, there's a sense of... more

|
By: Mark Millar Publisher: Marvel Comics July 09, 2008
What I mean by it being only okay, is it is nothing great. Before the story it has this preface where a guy talks about how he doesn't like comic books, with the exception of The Watchmen and similar deep original thought provoking ones- He then explains that he found this book to be one of them, surprisingly. Therefore when I started reading I was ready for, you know, a story! There was none... more
