| 1. John Romita, And All That Jazz (softcover) |
|
By: Roy Thomas, Jim Amash, John Romita Sr. Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing June 20, 2007
His was the art that transformed many comics from pedestrian to great performances. Under his tutelage, many aspiring professionals learned their craft to become career comic book creators. John Romita's career spanned almost 50 years in the industry, starting at Timely in the late 40's ghosting under Les Zakarin, he broke into comics with the revival of Captain America and has never looked back... more

| 2. Marvel Visionaries: John Romita Sr. |
|
By: Stan Lee, Tom DeFalco, Roy Thomas, Roger Stern, John Romita Sr. Publisher: Marvel Comics August 31, 2005
Overall this book gives a very good review of Romita's main work.
The main sampling is from Spider-man. Half of the 22 stories are related to or feature Spider-Man. Including the main ones I consider the most important #39-40 Romita's 1st issues of spider-Man and versus the Green Goblin, #42 1st Mary Jane or at least where we can see her, #50 classic cover and intro of the Kingpin... more

| 4. The John Romita Sketchbook |
|
By: J. David Spurlock, John Romita Publisher: Vanguard Productions (Dist. by Watson-Guptill) 2002-04
The John Romita Sketchbook is another in the outstanding series of interview/sketchbooks from J. David Spurlock's Vanguard Productions. With all due respect for Steve Ditko, it is the Romita Spiderman that I most fondly recall. Perhaps it's because it's the one I grew up on or perhaps it's because I liked Romita's more modern look. Whatever the case, John has always been the artist I most associate... more

| 5. Spider-Man Visionaries: John Romita Sr. TPB |
|
By: Stan Lee, Tom DeFalco, Roy Thomas, Roger Stern, John Romita Sr. Publisher: Marvel Comics August 15, 2001
Among true Marvel Zombies, the name John Romita is synonymous with clean, attractive art and great storytelling. He's contributed to just about every character Marvel has, and his run on Spider-Man (Filling the spot vacated by Spidey co-creator Steve Ditko! Not exactly a cushy assignment; Talk about having tough shoes to fill!) is the stuff of legends. For fans who haven't been reading comics... more

| 6. Spider-Man Newspaper Strips Volume 1 HC (Spiderman) |
|
By: Stan Lee, John Romita Sr. Publisher: Marvel Comics November 25, 2009
I purchased this volume without pausing to read the reviews first. I dimly remembered the originlal comic strips from my earliest days of newspaper reading (at the age of six). Complemented with reruns of the '60s Spider-Man cartoon, these strips helped turn Spidey into my favorite superhero, a position he's held with little interruption for the past 30 years. So why wouldn't I have bought these?... more

| 8. Modern Masters Volume 18: John Romita Jr. |
|
By: George Khoury, John Romita Jr., Eric Nolen-Weathington Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing July 16, 2008
I love JR JR's art. That's why I bought this book. It's basically a transcript of an interview with the artist by Tom Field, interspersed with black and white samples of Romita Jr's work throughout his 30+ years as a comic artist, almost exclusively for Marvel. JR JR may be one of the best artists in the biz at telling a story using sequential images but as an interviewee he is an incredibly poor chronicler... more

You just gotta love these Marvel Visionaries tomes, dontcha?
This new one surveys the career of one John Romita Jr., beginning with one of his earliest works in 1977, up until 2002. Now, the more you love comics, the more you will love this book. But even a novice or neophyte will find this stuff terrific.
The introduction is written by his father; it's a lovely piece... more

| 10. Thor By Dan Jurgens & John Romita Jr. Volume 1 TPB (Marvel Comics Heroes Return) |
|
By: Dan Jurgens, Howard Mackie, John Romita Jr. Publisher: Marvel Comics October 21, 2009
Dan Jurgens run on Thor in my opinion , is the best run on the series. better than Simonson on par with Lee and Kirby. nowadays runs on comics last only 6 to 12 issues in most cases. Jurgens run lasted over 70. in this series we see a new human counterpart the death of Odin and eventually thor taking over and ruling earth. and the build up is very epic. this should be on every comic lovers shelf... more
