| 1. John Buscema: A Life in Sketches |
| From: Pearl Press Publisher: Pearl Press August 01, 2008
This book has me a bit bewildered. The color painting featured on the front and back covers is not a Buscema sketch, but a painting by someone else. Also, I had hoped to learn about the man whose work I've admired since I was a boy reading Conan comic books. But the book has very few words, and almost no information. However, if it's simply John Buscema sketches you're looking for, this book won't... more

| | 2. The John Buscema Sketchbook (Popular Artist Sketchbook) |
| By: J. David Spurlock, John Buscema, Steranko Publisher: Vanguard Productions (dist by Watson-Guptill) 2001-09
That book is a show! Big! A little than John Buscema could do with a pencil. He was magic, as it was in whole its works. A book marvel to have and to consult whenever it is looking for inspiration. Wonderful!... more

| By: Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Marv Wolfman, Len Wein, Roger Stern, Chris Claremont, & others, John Buscema Publisher: Marvel Comics February 14, 2007
Putting together a posthumous collection is always a chancy proposition. How does anyone decide what to include and what to pass over? In this case, 22 stories were selected, showcasing a broad spectrum of John Buscema's talent. There are several pieces from different stages of the artist's early career, two horror stories, two humorous pieces (one "straight", one cartoony) and a romance tale, in... more

| | 4. John Romita, And All That Jazz (softcover) |
| By: Roy Thomas, Jim Amash, John Romita Sr. Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing June 20, 2007
His was the art that transformed many comics from pedestrian to great performances. Under his tutelage, many aspiring professionals learned their craft to become career comic book creators. John Romita's career spanned almost 50 years in the industry, starting at Timely in the late 40's ghosting under Les Zakarin, he broke into comics with the revival of Captain America and has never looked back... more

| | 5. How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way |
| By: Stan Lee, John Buscema Publisher: Fireside September 14, 1984
Not gonna lie--the book is rather dated in terms of its stylistic leanings, but it's still full of practical advice and techniques which any modern artist will find useful. Plus, it's always a hoot to read anything Stan Lee writes!... more

| | 8. Fantastic Four Visionaries - John Byrne, Vol. 7 (v. 7) |
| By: John Byrne, Roger Stern By: John Byrne Publisher: Marvel Comics July 11, 2007
3-1/2 stars. I consider volumes 3, 6 & 7 in this series to be about average to slightly above average in quality. This is the Return of Phoenix/ birth of X-Factor paperback; it's the thinnest edition in this series, yet issue 286 is really good. There are only six issues here, but four are bigger than average, with between 30-42 pages each.
It's content is split evenly, with the Phoenix... more

Fabulous book with Marvel's leading ladies of the 1980s!
What's really great is reading stories about Ms. Marvel, Shanna the She-Devil, Storm, Rogue, Black Widow...
... and realizing Dazzler -- the silver-suited rollerskating dance diva -- has the most respectable issue of them all!
Great colors, superb compilation! A must read!... more
