| 1. The Comic Book Makers |
|
By: Joe Simon, Jim Simon Publisher: Vanguard May 01, 2003
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who grew up reading comic books in the 30s, the 40s, the 50s and the 60s. Joe Simon a pioneer in the industry, shows how the fictional world of comic books was a reflection of the real world with its trials and tribulations. The book puts fact and reality to fantasy characters. It is truly and fun and fascinating read. Lots of great memories for pre-baby... more

| 2. The Best of Simon and Kirby |
|
By: Joe Simon, Jack Kirby Publisher: Titan Books May 12, 2009
What else is there to say? The Best of Simon & Kirby is simply the best of the best.
The stories are exciting, the artwork lovingly and properly restored. Compare the Sandman story to the lackluster production on the recent DC volume reprinting the same and the difference will make your eyes pop out.
Please understand, the volume is really a sampler, a taste of the work... more

|
By: Various Publisher: Archie Comics October 19, 2004
It's a fun read to read Simon and Kirby's concept of a different type of Super-hero. I'm a bit partial as I read these back in 1959 and along with any Jack Kirby stuff I was elated. Now Kirby only stayed a few issues so this isn't a complete Kirby issue. But this concept ended up as the prototype of what Spiderman became. Thats according to Jack and Joe. It's a easy read and don't expect any Marvel... more

| 8. Marvel Masterworks Golden Age Captain America Comics 1 |
|
By: Joe Simon Publisher: Marvel Enterprises March 23, 2005
I never cared for Golden Age comics. The few I saw seemed crude and simplistic compared to the Silver and Bronze age stuff I grew up with. I picked up this volume not expecting very much and was pleasantly surprised.
There is a surprising amount of macabre to Simon & Kirby's villains, not just the classic Red Skull, but "Chess-board of Death," "the Hunchback of Hollywood" and "the... more

|
By: Brian James, MADA Design Publisher: Simon Spotlight June 23, 2009
Think of this book as a mini version of the G.I. Joe Mission Dossier. And when I mini I mean a lot less info and details. It's essentially a crib sheet for the characters, vehicles and other gear from the movie. It's the kind of stuff that would be great for the very casual fan who doesn't want to go into any real details of that stuff, but get a quick overview and some pictures.
