| 1. Kirby: King of Comics |
|
By: Mark Evanier Publisher: Abrams February 22, 2008
Because Mark Evanier had started out as an assistant to Jack Kirby in the Seventies and became a life-long friend of the Kirby family from that time on, I approached this book with suspicion. Was this going to be another "Kirby-could-do-no-wrong" tribute, glossing over anything that showed him as multi-faceted as any human being, good and bad? Thankfully, no. It isn't that Evanier paints a warts-'n... more

| 2. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics May 02, 2007
I like a lot of Jack Kirby's work but, unfortunately, this series isn't top on my list. The book is well produced and all of the different series that were included in the Fourth World saga are here in chronological order which is nice but as the series progresses, admittedly, Jack becomes overwhelmed and it comes across in the work produced. The series is spread over four titles and the constant jumping... more

| 3. Jack Kirby's The Demon |
|
By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics November 25, 2008
I never cared much for the Demon before I read this Omnibus and now I know why: I hadn't read Jack Kirby's Demon. And don't fear the newsprint--it looks and smells great, and just makes these stories all the more fun... more

| 4. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus, Vol. 2 |
|
By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics August 08, 2007
This second volume of "Jack Kirby's Fourth World" is a better read than the first one and shows how Jack Kirby continued to expand his epic vision that would revolutionize comic books. This volume continues running issues of "Jimmy Olson", "The Forever People", "The New Gods" and "Mr. Miracle." The art is spectacular and Kirby's writing has improved from the start issues in the first volume... more

| 5. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus, Vol. 4 |
|
By: Jack Kirby By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics March 26, 2008
This fourth and last volume of "Jack Kirby's Fourth World" is a melancholy conclusion to a wonderful series. "New Gods" and "Forever People" both had the plugs pulled on them while "Mr. Miracle" limped to a conclusion through a number of more conventional superhero story lines. At least "Forever People" had a conclusion which is more than one can say about the end of "New Gods." The end of "Mr. Miracle"... more

| 7. The Losers |
|
By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics March 17, 2009
Sorry, but this disappointed me. I was given this as a gift and was excited to have the Losers back in my hands again until I realized it was Jack Kirby. The Losers was one of my favorite comics and I stopped buying it once Kirby took over. Compared to artists like Sam Glanzman, Russ Heath, John Severin and Joe Kubert who did the artwork in earlier issues, Kirby's version of the characters to me were... more

| 8. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus, Vol. 3 |
|
By: Jack Kirby, Mike Royer By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics November 07, 2007
This volume is a bit tougher to rate than it's predecessors. It contains some of the best work Jack Kirby ever produced side by side with some real clunkers.
Though in fairness some of that is not entirely Jack's fault.
The Pact - which I remembered with startling clarity nearly four decades after I'd first read it, and probably a quarter century since I'd last seen it - is... more

| 10. Jack Kirby's O.M.A.C. |
|
By: Jack Kirby Publisher: DC Comics June 10, 2008
OMAC: One Man Army Corps was a bizarre and unfortunately short-lived dystopian science-fiction comic created, written, and pencilled by legendary innovator Jack "King" Kirby (co-creator and illustrator of Marvel's Captain America, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Avengers, and Thor; creator, writer, and illustrator of DC's Fourth World; creator of the Romance genre in comic books; inventor of... more
