| 2. The Odyssey of Homer (Bantam Classics) |
|
By: Homer Publisher: Bantam Classics September 01, 1991
I have no beef with the translation, but the Kindle edition of this particular book is missing pretty much all of Book XV. If you need this, get the print version off of Amazon -- it's almost as cheap, especially when you consider that they skimmed a little off of the top by removing a chunk of the actual content. It's pretty easy to transfer print to Kindle format, why remove around twenty pages?... more

| 3. The Odyssey of Homer (P.S.) |
|
By: Richmond Lattimore Publisher: Harper Perennial Modern Classics June 26, 2007
Overall, the best translation available -- here presented in a new approach with Reading Group questions at the end. I am not sure how many reading groups are going to read The Odyssey, and most of those reading, either for solitary pleasure or in a classroom setting where better questions are going to be discussed make the past few pages really somewhat worthless -- but overall, this is the finest... more

| 5. The Odyssey (Puffin Classics) |
|
By: Homer Publisher: Puffin December 01, 1997
The disclosure of the publisher "Puffin" rightly gives the fact that this is a child's version away. Yet, the prose of this text is not condescending. I love the use of imagery, similes, metaphor and hyperbole; this read is a treat for all ages, as it inspires the imagination in ways the original text may not for lack of so much detail. I enjoy reading the different versions of they Odyssey- analyzing... more

| 10. The Odyssey of Homer (Oxford Myths & Legends) |
|
From: Oxford University Press, USA Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA March 01, 2001
I first read Barbara Leonie Picard's retelling of the Odyssey when I was young and since that time, it has held a special place in my heart. I read it aloud to my daughter when she was a little girl. Picard captures the beauty of the language in a manner that young people can understand and appreciate. The illustrations by Kiddell Monroe, in keeping with the period, portray the characters as figures... more
