| 1. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Pandemonium |
|
From: Vertigo Publisher: Vertigo February 16, 2010
Everyone loves a little bit of John Constantine and we would be hard pressed to resist the appeal of this brand-new graphic novel featuring the charming occult detective from London. Add in the fact that it is written by acclaimed Vertigo luminary, Jamie Delano, and illustrated by fan favorite artist, Jock, ignoring this graphic novel becomes all the more harder. The cover looks shiny and sleek with... more

| 2. Hellblazer: Original Sins |
|
By: Jamie Delano Publisher: Vertigo October 01, 1997
Great that DC Comics finally decided to collect the original Delano issues of Hellblazer. This is what established John Constantine as a character that could dominate DC comics and provided the second step in the road to Vertigo (the final being Neil Gaiman's Sandman). Furthermore, Delano really gave Constantine a heart and a lot of guilt that would show how much of a price he actually paid when he... more

| 4. Hellblazer: The Fear Machine (Hellblazer (Graphic Novels)) |
|
By: Jamie Delano Publisher: Vertigo July 15, 2008
I can't believe this item is rated so poorly. I've read nearly everything on the Hellblazer line and this rates near the top. Everything that the other reviewers criticize I thought, by contrast, was a strength. I didn't find the portrayal of Constantine as a hippie to be unrealistic. We see Constantine at a very youthful stage in his life, and he begins to become a man in this volume. The far-out... more

| 5. Hellblazer: The Devil You Know (Hellblazer (Graphic Novels)) |
|
By: Jaime Delano Publisher: Vertigo May 02, 2007
The Devil You Know is a collection of some of the best stories written by Delano (Hellblazer #10 to #13 as well as some independent stories), the first writer to give John Constantine a soul. Sex & Death and The Devil You Know show Constantine's cunning, tortured and sarcastic personality, while Newcastle and On The Beach provide the background for his early story. However, the plot of this book... more

By: Peter Milligan Publisher: Vertigo November 10, 2009
I have read quite a few peter millagan graphic novels such as enigma and skin and the extremist with ted mckeever and all were good to great for their genera and then it seemed like peter sort have disappeared only to pop up again at marvel on his historic and outragous run on x-force and it seemed at that point peter millagan had stepped his game up in my eyes from there he did the programe on... more

| 8. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Damnation's Flame |
|
By: Garth Ennis Publisher: Vertigo June 01, 1999
The Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon run on Hellblazer is a mixed bag. I like the focus on Constantine as a man (and not a mythic entity) and his weaknesses. I like the grittiness and the boozing and the dirt. However, I don't like how bizarrely ineffectual Constantine becomes at points in the story, and I often don't like the choppiness of the narrative.
In Damnation's Flame, these are... more

Garth Ennis, John Constantine, Hellblazer: Fear and Loathing (Vertigo, 1997)
John Constantine and Garth Ennis seem made for one another, in some evil parallel universe. Ennis, of course, is the man behind the psyhchotically brilliant Preacher, and Constantine is, well, Constantine, the chainsmoking archwizard whose entire purpose in saving the world is so he has something to play with... more

| 10. Hellblazer: The Roots of Coincidence |
|
By: Andy Diggle Publisher: Vertigo May 19, 2009
With this story The Roots of Coincidence, Constantine ("rhymes with fine") comes face to face with the synchronicity highway he has been riding his entire life. Why for instance does he always end up at the wrong place at the right time? And how has he been cloaked against the deadly Mako without his knowledge? Who exactly is pulling Constantine's strings? All of these questions are answered in... more
